If the clicking sound I keep hearing is in fact a Mantis Pest...

How do I get rid of it?! Has anyone ever had to catch one? If so...how do you catch it? Especially since mysterious FISH DEATHS are not the result of pristine/near perfect water quality or fighting with other "DOCILE" fish or excellent-feeding or beautiful rockwork and a large enough tank space with few tank-mates, plenty of swimming room in the water column and a mature tank.

NO! There is no other way fish can die other than these mantis pests. I want to know how I catch it and when I do catch it, I'm going to SMASH it into a bloody pulp.

Poor little mantis shimp, he's on death row and doesn't even know it.
The hard way to remove him is to get a few rubbermaids (depending on how much rock work you have) and pull each rock out till you find him. I had to do this to get damsels out a few months ago.

My cleaner will actually take food (silver sides and krill) from my hand. If you can get the mantis to do this maybe you can catch him. Perhaps you could make a trap? Then you risk catchin good shrimo or fish.

cku,

Oh...you have no idea how pissed I am! I'm lucky I didn't put my mystery wrasse in the tank. If I had found that one dead because of the mantis pest...you can believe I'd leave work RIGHT now; go home; get a hammer and chisel to break every piece of live rock (that's right...ALL 80 LBS OF IT) in that tank and the refugium (GOTTA MAKE SURE I CHECK EVERYTHING); and/or comb every single grain of argonite sand and when I find that MANTIS PEST....

I'm going to put him in my new MURDER bag where he will be introduced to my fridgerator FREEZER. I hear the pain of the cold causes excrutiation pain before they lose conscienceness.

Aww, I love my Mantis, though I put him in there on purpose. I can understand your frustration, they are mean little suckers. Amazing how quick they are, but they are predators. Hope you got rid of him.

Guygettnby - I understand how you feel, so if you have a humane way to remove him - let it be known. Im also good with keeping him alive, trading him, or whatnot. But, he is a hitchhiker. I respect my Mantis, I have a Peacock Mantis that is an amazing critter (herbie). I have a new and loving respect for my friend, alas they can be a nusance as well. Mine has his own tank that I devoted to him, this tank was not divoted to him.

I'm pretty sure this thread is sarcasm.

Huh? Nothing about that post makes sense. And, the thread is very old.

Being give charge for the care of reef creatures, all of them, the original poster's comments disturb me. What if you had a PITA dog or cat that kept bothering you? Would you "smash it to bits" ?
IMHO, if you have a reef inhabitant you don't desire, humanely capture it and find a person who IS willing to care for it.
