Feeding time

How much and how often do you feed your mantis? What do you feed it? Can you feed it frozen shrimp like you would get at a shop rite or something?

It depends on if you're keeping a smasher or a spearer. Either will likely take frozen shrimp, scallops, krill, silversides, etc. I feed mine twice a week or so, maybe three times. It's a good idea to soak the food in a vitamin supplement, such as Selcon, once a week. It's also adviseable to provide live food at least a couple of times a month to allow the mantis to exercise its raptorial appendages. Otherwise, they will get weak and molting will be more difficult/dangerous. Live food would include crabs and snails for smashers, fish for spearers.

what kind of snails do you guys feed? I plan on keeping hermits in the tank as cleanup and then add snails for food every once and a while would that be ok?
