Death of a mantis shrimp :(

Well as most of u know...there r dangers to mantis shrimp moltings. Not developing fully, lost appendages, and DEATH. Unfortunately, it happens just because!.You can't prevent it nor predict it! My mantis shrimp, an N. Wennerae just locked itself in its den for 4 days trying to molt. My parameters r great and i have an established tank in which she has been in for several months. Today she opened her den and was eating her old cuticle. Naturally i observed closely. Went out for dinner and came back to check on my little lady, and :*( She wasn't moving! I moved the live rock which was her den, and she did not move. I picked her up with my hands and still she didn't budge. She was dead! She is now being devoured by my nassarius snails and star fish. I noticed earlier in the day that some of her parts were under developed and during her molt what little i could see looked difficult. She will be missed. I am slightly broke so, if anyone has a mantis shrimp they don't want or hitchhiked in, they would be going to a good home 24 g aquapod 20 lbs live rock some corals, large hermits and large turbos.

Also have you tried LFS or any other forum site for a new mantis shrimp? there is many new post daily there and i would highly recommend it, but i still am a noob at saltwater but am doing semi well. There are many things that get posted there. I look almost everyday just to see any good deals or any help i can provide from experience(which is not much).

I do know alot of people consider the mantis a pest, and would wish nothing less than the complete annihilation of it. If I found one in my tank, or hear of one from some of the local tanks. I would gladly save it from sudden death, and give it to you free, you would have to pick it up or pay for shipping of course. I can at least put the word out that someone wants one if one is found.

Hey, sorry for your loss...I have a wennerae and it would be pretty upsetting if she was just dead like that....

stompatopod.com and liveaquaria.com had a bunch of different ones, even smithii for sale within the last day or so, if you are still looking...I just got a peacock for my new 30G acrylic tank!

they are very cool. i got the kind you had but it had shell rot on his body and on his eye. i didn't notice till i took him home. he only lived for like a month and i think it's cause of the shell rot.

Hey go to cramers carribean critters.com, you can get three to four different species of mantis shrimp for only $6 and $14 shipping, and that's the cheapest I've seen, I've ordered two n. Oerstediis and they are both doing great, they also have n. Wennerae, just tell what species you want
