Well as most of u know...there r dangers to
mantis shrimp moltings. Not developing fully, lost appendages, and DEATH. Unfortunately, it happens just because!.You can't prevent it nor predict it! My
mantis shrimp, an N. Wennerae just locked itself in its den for 4 days trying to molt. My parameters r great and i have an established tank in which she has been in for several months. Today she opened her den and was eating her old cuticle. Naturally i observed closely. Went out for dinner and came back to check on my little lady, and :*( She wasn't moving! I moved the live rock which was her den, and she did not move. I picked her up with my hands and still she didn't budge. She was dead! She is now being devoured by my nassarius snails and star fish. I noticed earlier in the day that some of her parts were under developed and during her molt what little i could see looked difficult. She will be missed. I am slightly broke so, if anyone has a mantis shrimp they don't want or hitchhiked in, they would be going to a good home 24 g aquapod 20 lbs live rock some corals, large hermits and large turbos.
