Yes it is true that when they run these experiments they have to have a control where they have to document the two creatures together without external stimuli to see how they react, if the mantis survives by avoiding the bite, and if he will completly eat the octopus.
an interesting fact about these octo's is that they actually don't bite unless they are threatened and can't run. i was reading about aquaculture facilities and they say that the divers that catch the blue rings do it with their bare hands and so far have never reported a death... the danger is when you get some stupid tourist stepping on one or messing with one.
another strange thing is the fact that the poison wears off in 24 hours with no side effects assuming they can breath and pump your blood for you for 24 hours... odd for any poison not to cause secondary damage.
this test was very necessary... and it is also good to get a clear view of the tactics that the mantis uses.
