New Fish Trap
Here is a close up of my new fish trap 5" wide by 9" long. Trap door is not in place to first let fish acclimate to the trap.

Looks good. Is the bulkhead in the top connected to some type of feeding line? If not what is the purpose?

Trap
It has only been 24 hours since first introducing the trap into the tank. Most of the fish enter it to feed and actually fight to get inside! The target fish, a Hardwicke Wrasse, is very skiddish but is getting closer and closer to the trap. He is still avoiding it so far. But I "could have caught " most of the fish in my tank twice !
Hopefull the wrasse will warm up to the trap....I've tried manyt other ways of catching him, so far unsuccesful....but I have not yet begun to fight!
Why do I feel like Wile E. Coyote?

Tube
Yes the bulkhead is connected to a feed tube.....all the materials were constructed out of spare stuff, mostly from my old overflows. I have been feeding the fish only through the tube to coax them closer to the trap. So far it's the right trap, wrong fish!!!

Trap
The trap works as follows:
You place it in the tank and feed ONLY through the tube. The fish "learn" that the trap is where the food is and get used to the trap. My fish routinely swim in and out of the trap all day long even when not feeding them.
Once the fish you want to catch is routinely going in and out of the trap, you slide the "gilloutine" type trap door into the slots in the front of the trap. You then feed the fish through the tube. The door is attached to fishing line. You run the line out of the tank sit on your couch and hold the door open.....then......let it drop once the target fish is inside the trap. Once you catch the fish you close the ball valve and pull the trap out of the tank, undo the union, and you now have a container of water with the target fish to do with what you please.

Progress?
Thanks Rob!
I think I m making progress. The wrasse is venturing closer and closer to the trap at feeding time. At first he would not go within a foot of the trap. Now he is getting as close as a few inches. All the other fish are going in and out like it is a drive in food joint. The other fish are getting most of the food by grabbing it before it exits the trap and that has the wrasse going hungry. I think it is just a matter of time......fingers still crossed though.

Hi CJ! no luck yet, but he is getting very comfortable around the trap.
I'll try again tonight. Thanks for asking though!

Well, the wrasse is sticking his head in the trap regularly now. Only problem is my Clarkii Clown chases him away. But recently he must me getting really hungry because even the clown does not keep him away from the trap. Hopefully I will get him sometime next week since I am off all weekend due to plant shutdown.
