Question

DIY Stand

Who has built their own stand? Was looking for maybe some diagrams or pictures of stands people have built to get some ideas going. The tank is going to be 36x18x24 so i was thinking of making it 1 inch more length and width wise. I have all the table saws and tools i will need to build it just dont know where to start.

found this searching online. How does this look for a stand plan?

I would just wrap the whole thing with 1/2'' Plywood and make a couple of doors in the front that will open the whole front of the stand.

yeah no rush not going to be building nething right just yet. Just trying to get everything sorted out and ready so when its time im ready to go and wont have to sit and plan.

I will probably be planning everything for the next few weeks then get to it. Taking this one slow and steady. The whole transfer from my 38 to the new 65 will probably take a few months adding the corals last. I will just run NO on the new tank till i cant get the corals in there.

My to DIY stand one is for my old 55g
The other is for my new 125g

Both still need doors the larger one needs trim yet. I would recommend making the openings a size they make pre made doors for. Unless you have a router. I made this mistake on the 55g stand. Home depot and menards have the doors pre made. [ATTACH][ATTACH][ATTACH]Click image for larger version

i like your design nice and simple. But i dont think i could do those 2 supports in the middle like you have. I want to be able to run a sump.

My stand has a removable panel on the end to get all of the equipment in and out that won't fit through the doors. Anything that can't come through the doors is likely only coming out because of a disaster anyway.

I would also suggest that if you build a stand, to have your vertical supports in line with the top and bottom frames. This way the 2x4 is carrying the weight and not the screws that are holding up the tank.

You wont need the middle supports of a tank of your size. In face you could use all 2x3s if you want

My tank is a 30 gal with dimensions almost exactly as yours. Use 2 X 4's and 1/2 in plywood skin. You don't need a center support for that size tank. Go to HD and pick out 5 straight pieces of 2X4 without knots. Pick out a good piece of sanded 1/2 in plywood (4X8 ft) and get them to cut it into 4 pieces of 2X4 ft. There you go, for $20 you have the majority of the lumber you need
