Talking

tsouth's rimless 65 build

Woo! It hasn't even been a full year and i'm already acquiring NTS (new tank syndrome). Anyways here are some pictures for you folks.
This is what's going on right now upstairs lol

Here's the tank

Specs:
48Lx18Wx16H
Black silicone
Drilled for return and drain
Glass-holes.com custom overflow box & return kit (VERY nice!!!!! Super sleek and quiet + great prices and customer service. I had them call back a package and they redrilled a new overflow box for me because of the wrong dimensions at no charge!!!) Pictures of this soon to come. Stay tuned!

That looks like it is going to be a really sweet setup. Sounds like a very nice size as well.

Best of luck with the build.

Are you planning on using the canopy for that tank?

Ah most definitely folks. I didn't even care if it was only 10 gallons bigger lol I just wanted rimless!!!
Aquawolf: The canopy will be above the aquarium somewhere between 6-8 inches. I'll house 4 or 6 t5ho's(depending on whether or not I want to buy two more since I have 4 now) w/ icecap reflectors and 5 current lunar light modules in blue. A very simple design of just plywood w/ a really nice wood grain and most likely going to be dark brown to bring out the modern elements of design. I'll use two L brackets to mount into studs on the back wall.

If you can use some kind of hinge setup it would be much easier to work on. The first time you go to put a 10in piece of live rock through that 8in opening you are going to kick yourself. It's much easier to just flip the canopy up instead of removing the whole thing everytime you need more access.

Yeah most definitely. I've seen it done before but not sure on how to go about it. What is the best way of mounting the canopy for this type of movement? Should I use L brackets or screws straight through into studs?

Dang, you had me worried and closely scanning those pics. I was afraid something happened and you broke the tank. Glad to see that is not the case at all.
