Raycityboy1's 125 Reef

125 Gallon AGA
Valdosta, GA
6' X 18" X 22"
Sal: 1.025
75 degrees Fahrenheit

Still just a tad bit cloudy since last night.

I put the blue backdrop on the tank for the sole purpose of this picture only

I haven't finished the back canopy yet but here is the back view. There is 5 ft of viewable glass on the back. I painted two strips on the back glass to camouflage plumbing.

The tank looks totally different now. I have taken many pics but can't get any that are worth a darn. The tank is stocked with corals and a few fish. The previous pictures were a poor representation of the rock within. There was some sand sprinkled all over everything from me filling it up. It gave the appearance that the LR was dead but it is all live. The majority of it that is different colors was lr I had going outside, just because I had no tanks that could hold any more inside.

Since I have gotten the tank up I have experienced a few minor leaks that showed themselves nearly a week later. I had a leak at a return entering the glass (drained the tank half way for 2 days to clean and repair). I had a drip out of a drain pipe (just shut it down and resealed). The the leak that gave me some trouble. I thought it was coming from another drain pipe, but i only cought of drops of water on the tile every once in a while. I came home yesterday and the powerstrip some of my lights were on got saltwater in the plug and burnt it (it did not trip the powerstrip nor my gcfi, I changed both out today). I thought this was strange because all my electricity is above the level of the water. Turns out one of the wavemakers had a minute leak at a fitting that was leaking such a small amount in conjunction with being on a cycled usage, originally made the leak aloof(Fixed). The bad part is i sealed the drain pipe 3 times that i thought was leaking.

This tank has gotten me started on a DIY LR kick. I experimented with a few things late last Sunday afternoon. My problem doesn't seem to be the mixture, it seems to be my creativity or lack thereof. I will play around some more with it next weekend and see if I can get some decent shapes.

This is a different tank. I am having an unbelievable problem with diatoms in the new tank. When I converted the 30 clown and anenome tank to a frag tank, I moved the sand to the 125 along with some more. It only took a few days before almost all my sand was black. I put some sand sifting critters in there to help. Theres about 11 fish and some corals in it. I will get some pics up soon.

its probably because your tank isn't very old. Our tank is now 3 months old and we have had a couple diatom blooms. They are just now starting to go away again.

One thing I've noticed is that when I add or replace PVC, I end up getting diatoms. Maybe this is part of the cause.

I finally got a glimpse of my pearly last night when the lights are off. This one isn't quite as charasmatic as my last one. I had him more than a week before I seen him one time. I don't know what happened to the last one, he was in my frag tank I know for a few days and then he just disappeared. I searched all over the floor, the tank inside and out, took everything out of the tank, no signs nor remains of him. I had sent a few corals to a friends house out of that tank for sitting because at the moment I didn't have sufficient lighting in that tank. I thought maybe he hopped a ride on a coral and went to my friends house, b/c my gramma was darn sure clinging to a coral when I took it out of the tank. Friend states he hasn't seen him, but his tank is so full he wouldn't know if he was in there or not.

A new pc of Ricordia. It is peach with a white center and a yellow mouth. Any ideas???

I have searched and searched online and cannot find anything like this. Perhaps I am not looking in the right places

I don't know if I read it right or not but online I read that there were a few different types of Florida Ricordia. This is the closest thing that i could get identifying it. Now, normally Florida Ricordia has pink edges, purple center and a green mouth. Does anyone have any ideas. This was bought as a gift and the person that bought it said they couldn' remember the name..... Figures.....

Any Id would be nice and appriciated.

Bought this Galaxia for 30. I thought that was a steal given the size.

My clown is waiting to pounce on the galaxia as soon as it opens. He is already running other fish away. I got rid of all the condy anenomes and he won't take to my BTA's. I new he wouldn't go for my green rock anenome, but he started making a home in my giant Red Lobo Brain. This didn't make me too happy, despite the internet telling me that he wouldn't hurt the Lobo. I just don't feel comfortable with him getting that friendly with my Lobo. As soon as I put the Glaxia in, the clown went right to it and is still awaiting all the tenticles to come completely out.

The clown is a saddleback. I had bought him for my saddleback anenome and I had to get rid of the anenome b/c he was too big and too much of a wanderer. Ever since, the clown had taken to the Condys. Now that they are gone, he is about to go stir crazy trying to snuggle in something.

This is not actually that far fetched. I have never had a diatom problem like this even with new tanks, but all the plumbing is new of course and at about 30 ft of PVC, perhaps that can be a factor.

I got a pink chubby plate today. No pics yet. I did however get a FTS with my new 8MP camera with panoramic stiching (3 pictures seamed to make one). As long as one keeps the angle consitant between pictures, it makes seamless shots.

OOPs I wasn't done posting. I haven't quite got the hang of the close ups with my new camera. At any rate, heres my plate looking 30-40% better than I have been seeing it in the store for weeks after only a few hours in my tank. I was really concerned and hesitated to buy this b/c in the store for weeks, one side was looking like it was receding. Today I asked the girl to stick her hand on it and tell me if it was still fleshy. It was just being pounded by flow across the front glass in the tank causing it to be withdrawn and retracted and was not actually unhealthy like I originally thought. It has come out all over with no problems in my tank.

Your tank is looking good. Your new camera takes nice shots. What kind of camera is it? I love that clown. What kind is it and where did you get it? It looks misbarred but very cool.

Thank you. The camera is a Kodak easyshare V803. The camera has more settings than instructions and I really haven't played with it too much aside from the panoramic stiching (which I love having with a 6 ft tank, now I don't have to be 10 feet away to get the whole thing.) This camera is advertised in the latest Wal-Mart circular. It just hit the shelves yesterday. The camera I really wanted was a Cannon powershot something aruther with 8.0 MP but they are getting rid of all the cameras that are currently on their shelves and replacing them with I guess newer models and that particular one was not in stock. This one was cheaper and a steal at 199.00 for what all it does. I am not completely sold on it yet until I get a little better with it. I have 30 days to decide if I want to get another one, this was just my first choice b/c of price vs features.

The clown is a saddleback clown is why it looks misbarred. I waited months to get one to go with my Vietnamese Saddleback anenome which I no longer have b/c of size and his meandering. The only thing I don't like about it is he always has a frown face the way his head is shaped. A typical perc to me always looks happy lol. Another thing that I have noticed with this clown that is interesting is that his side fins fold in half horizontally to tread water in one spot. I have never seen a fish continously fold his side fins horizontally in this manner. At any rate I think I paid 20 in a LFS a long time ago, I had them special order it for me b/c I have never seen one kept in stock anywhere. They are mildly aggressive, they just like their space, my friend bought the one that was shipped with mine and he said it killed all his damsels. Mine will just run them off for a few inches.

I may have to check into that camera. Honestly, I haven't researched digital cameras for the past few years and wasn't even aware of panoramic stiching. I'm still using my old Nikon 950 which was an excellent digital camera in its time but is a bit outdated now (I may be showing my age here a bit so no jokes that I'm a bit outdated myself )

Thanks for the info on the saddleback. I've done a little researching tonight and wasn't even aware of the awesome pattern of this particular clown. That being said, yours is a great example of a saddleback and you should look for a partner for it. That would be an outstanding clownfish pair.

Again, your tank is looking good. Keep up the good work.
