the circulation plan???????????? let me know if you have a better idea.

main pump gen-x mak4
closed loop investigating
power heads/ other unknown.
skimmer tf110a (the baby top fathom)

so far i have a sump about 20 gallons i would guess and the gen-x pump on the way.. i know its not the quietest pump but has good flow for a pressure pump, uses a lot less electricity than the equivelent iwaki pump and is a lot cheaper to buy to begin with... i dont know how it rates in heat transfer but this is not infomation that i have readily available, or have ever seen, because for some reason it does not seem to be a quanity measured for comparison by the company. in theory it would transfer less heat than a pump that uses more power but this is just a stab in the dark.
so the main pumps out put will be split between the skimmer and the main return. the spec for the pump said that it is capable of 1180 at 6' of head pressure and the skimmer uses about 200gph @6' (270 gph at 10') of head backpressure. i think the system will only generate about 6' due to piping and total lift height so i might have to throttle the flow to the tank to increase pressure to the skimmer. what should be left over is about 900gph which should be perfact for turnover to the sump. i know it never works out because the math is never that perfact but seems good enough. so what i need to figure out now is weither or not to use some seio streams or look at a closed loop system to increase in tank circulation. i would prefer a closed loop system because of heat transfer and ease of maint. but have never had one so i am looking for some sugestions.. ps thanks ahead of time for your responce

new news

well that tank at the top of the page is stuck in california and will not be joining me... what a drag. i will not be held back and now i own a 125 which i will picking up myself in jacksonville tonight. it will be empty for a while because it is not reef ready and i will have to work on it for a while before it is ready for fish. went to the local glass shop looking for materials to build the overflow with and i asked the man at the counter for some 1/4 cast acrylic and he looked at me like i was speaking alien or somthing. i guess in my area there is no call for it, so i might have to find a place down in jax that has what i am looking for. mabe the wife will let me turn the pool into a tank in the mean time.. ha ha

Got the tank home and it is not in the greatest shape. there are a lot of scraches on the front and the hood does not appear to have been made for this tank and will need a trim. has anyone ever polished a tank before and can offer any tips or is it just to much trouble and i should scrap it and try again.... aj
