72 bow mixed reef - Ikaria

I've been dragging my feet for quite some time about starting a tank thread, but since it's Thanksgiving I figured what the heck.

Tank has been up and running for about 10 months now.

I find that T-5 blue+ bulbs make it tough to get a good tank shot with my camera. I took this one from the end. More pictures to follow.

Also, don't forget to give us some other tank details too.

No full tank shot yet. I'm going to have to change out the bulbs to get a good photo.

Tank specs.
Oceanic 72 gallon bow. Metals collection stand and top.
20 gal sump
Mag 9.5 return.
2 Seio 1100's w/ Seio controller.
Tek 48" T-5 4 bulb light fixture
CSS 125 skimmer.

The tank with the metals collection stand and canopy is very cool, even without a reef Do you have any acros in the bottom part of the tank? If so, how are they growing with the four bulb tek light?

Thanks Paul!

No, all my acros are around the middle of the tank. My orange monticap bleached to a light pink, and had to be on the bottom for a while, but now it's back up.

I have the lights about 6" off the water because I just changed bulbs, and things were starting to bleach. I will move them back down to about 4" over the next month.

I don't keep anything too close to the bottom because my yellow-head sleeper is a sifting machine.

Here's a teaser photo. Remember the boring brown acro you gave me at the last meeting?

Yup. Under actinic rich light, it looks blue. It grows a blue tip though. I will have to get you a picture of that micro frag from a while back. You would be supprised how it has grown.

Nice pics.....FWIW, I keep my Tek 4x54w fixture about 8"-10" off the water because I was bleaching everything in my tank out. It really helped a lot, also shortening the daylight period on my tank helped too. The actinic+ have so much PAR that you don't need daylights for too long. I'm using 1- 11k, 1 6500k, and 2 actinic+.

I bet you are getting good growth from your corals too....T5 sure has impressed me I know!

Keep em coming.

I've been real happy with T-5's. Just switched from 2 10K, 2 Actinic to 1 10k, 1 Aquablue, 1 Super Actinic, and 1 Blue+, I really like the way this makes the colors pop. I tried an Aquasun, but too much pink for me. It's a great bulb to color up coralline though!

Dwight those zoa's are great looking and the full tank shot is nice also.
Looks like it's about time I update my thread. My tank is overtaken by leathers and one anemone.
