54 Corner Bow - Ikaria
I started this hobby 20 years ago with a SeaClear 50 gal acrylic corner pentagon tank. Do to numerous moves and setups/breakdowns, it has accumulated it's share of scratches. So.... what to do? Try to sand it down and save it, or scrap it. Scrap it is.
I didn't want to leave the corner it stands in empty, so I'm replacing it with an AGA 54 gal corner bow.

Here's a pic of the tank when it was pretty much new. (Picture scanned from a photo).

A photo of the new tank. I added the blue vinyl background.

I decided I didn't want the standard corner tank stand that most people build/buy, so that means DIY. Right now the canopy is optional since I haven't decided what lights I'm going to use.
Here's a drawing I made as an idea of what it will look like. I'm sure it will be modified some as the build progresses.
I wanted the side counter as a possible place for a future nano, and to give me some storage space!

I made the stand top first to make sure I was going to like the looks of this thing. So far so good. One thing I found out about the tank is that it is not symmetrical. I was going to make a jig to cut the arc, but the front frame, on the tank, is about an inch out of round. I cut the arc by hand with a jigsaw.
Today's work. (Lost a couple hours due to grocery shopping). Plan to do the frame tomorrow.

Looks great Dwight! Sure don't envy you the job of building the curved door panel for under the tank though. LOL. Good luck with your DIY. Don't forget to take lots of pictures to show us your progress.

Got off to a late start today (lack of motivation), but was able to get all the pieces for the stand cut. I decided to use dowel pins in the joints to add strength, which took longer than planned. All that awaits is assembly on Monday.
Photo of the top part of the frame. The pieces are just stuck together for the picture.

Louise, Thanks! I have a plan for the curved door!
Paul, Not planning on any sps, but maybe my orange monti cap since it's growing visably by the day now. I also need to move my lps, and shrooms out of the 72 which will free up lots of valuable real estate for frags. I still plan on getting a 175 bow eventually, so we'll see.

On a side note, I had to go back and open up the overflow hole in the top to allow more room for the bulkheads.

Didn't get much done today, attached the top to the upper frame, and finished the base. Will be adding the supports tomorrow. Here's the top with the tank.
