boom
ok, little update for today. i spent the last couple of days playing around with some small scraps of acrylic for a sump and trying to get the best price i could for my new setup. ordered my tank, stand, and lights today. $2700 .
equipment so far:
glass 80 gallon bowfront (+stand totaled $555)
solaris 48 inch ($2104)
glass 30 gallon (sump) (free-ish)
acrylic, router bit, new "cool kid" shop glasses, and misc ($50)
im really interested in seeing how the solaris will work out, i boguht it mostly because its a gimmick and i love new toys, but also because i wouldnt be able to run MH+T5's and a microwave in my apartment. and the solaris should only run about 300watts. oh and im tryign to spend less than $3500 for the whole set up (not counting live rock and animals from already established tanks)

another day
so i ordered some generic unfun things so i won't bother posting them, but the total was about $300 so im getting close to my limit. which is no good because i havent thought about what fish to add or cleaners, but i geuss that's good because it'll force me to wait and think it out very thouroughly. (because that's a word and it's spelled that way.) i figured i'd post some pictures because posts withotu them are boring.
theres the old tank, which i'm still taking care of, but havent really cleaned the front glass ever since i started on the new tank.
my apartment doesent have any outdoor outlets so this had to do, luckily it was incredibly warm for january.
here's what i got from that, a few baffles for my sump...
and here's the girl i'm ignoring while i do all this work.
well that's it for today, the pump and what not comes on tuesday (also my schools first day of classes, so i'll see what i can get done, but probably won't be much. -Erik

waiting....
my next big shipment of parts came, but my refractometer came broken or at least unusable, so hooray. but, the solaris came and that thing is rediculusly bright. so bright in fact in changes the way ridiculous is spelled. so affter my eyes recovered i took the lightign back down, and am pretty much just waiting for my new tank to come. i found guys to drill it in solon, ohio (my home town), which is nice because they apparently did alot of the drilling for seaworld (which used to be just the next town over.) everythign seems to be comming together alright, but there's probably a problem with the way my baffles are set up in my sump, so i'l probably have to struggle with that for awhile, but i'll get it right. im going to test out the pump tonight with the wavemaker and a protein skimmer to see if the baffles are really going to be a problem (the gap i intended to be 1.5" is actually closer to 1.16-1" so ugh, ) i'll have pictures as soon as i have anything interesting

ok, so after almost a week little has changed here, i got my tank and some more plumping, but i'm having the tank drilled and the guy told me it won't be done till thursday. which is ok i geuss, i kinda have to wait for the last bits of my plumping to come before i cut anymore lines. but since i've been planning this tank for months i'm of course a bit impatient. i've been curign the rock for 6 weeks now and its about as clean as it gets, so at least when the tank is ready i'll be able to load it pretty quick. that's about it, i'll post pictures on thursday

set up
alright got my tank last night at 730 and worked until 2am to get everythign set up, but its nearly finnished. i have to move the baffles inside the sump again because even after i did some surgery to spred them out they jsut kidna returned to the same spots under pressure. i also need to get elbows for the drains so that they are closer to the surface to keep my sump from overflowing. but heres the pictures
i'll post pictures of the very crowded underneath later. i'm fairly proud of how i handled it

crap
ok, after having my tank within a foot of the finnish line i realize i need to make a change, it probbly would run fine under the current condition, but to remove all doubt ive got to get it drilled again, and i need to spend more $ on parts, but i suppose to ensure i won't burn out a $50 pump i should be willing to spend $50...ugh

i noticed awhile back i said my set up cost me $300, i meant to say $3000. slight difference. in any case its probably at about... $3300 now. without the majority of the animals, but i'm using old rock so at least thats kinda free right?
