Mielikki's hunt

Hi! New to the board, and heck to salt water tanks to begin with!

i've had fresh water for over 20 yrs, and now am the proud owner of one 55 gallon fresh water and a 55 gallon salt water.

Salt water has a skimmer, a reverse osmosis machine, a bunch of live rock, two heaters, a filter. . it was a gift from a friend.

I was able to bring almost all of the 55 gallons that was in there with me. There was some little live creatures at the former owners house, but haven't seen a single one since the move. It had three bristle worms, but was able to give two to a friend of mine. Not something I want, they give me the creeps, and I thought she got
them all, but saw a third one last friday.

Previous owner had two large garbage cans he used to make the distilled water and mix the salt water, transported the rock in the salt water bin so it was (mostly) submerged in salt water for the trip home. .top few rocks stuck out

Two snails and three hermit crabs round it out. .

It currently has some white fungussy stuff growing on the live rocks. . not sure what it is, never seen it in my fresh water. Thoughts?

It's nice having the fresh water tank, cuz if I get chomping on the bit to buy something, I can go buy it for the fresh water hehehehe.

I hope to eventually gett a dragonette, a clown fish, some chromis, and a few other fish who's names currently evade the tired brain. .

That's it. .

Came home yesterday, and saw some little glassy like creatures wiggling around on the rock. Not sure what they are, but assumign they're the little creatures that some fish eat. My two green cromis I bought have disappeared, but until I get my new roommate's crap out of the living room, I can't get to the tank to pull things apart(it's driving me nuts).

The snails & hermit crabs are doing well. . haven't seen the icky worm since last week. There's a flowery growth on one of the stones. . .not sure if the camera I have is good enough to see it. . it's kinda small right now

Well, tanks been going a month, the two chromis are still going and eating well. . .Hopefully next weekend I'll be able to rearrange things, as the roommates crap better be in her room when I get back from being away this weekend.

Looking at all the shrooms and anemone's makes me want to try some. .but think I need a night light.

Since I didn't do an entire start of this tank, decided to take a risk, and got two Percula(? Think that's right) clowns. . OMG, I love them .. they're all eating well, and are enjoying the little cave that was inadvertantly built when I put the rock in. . They've even taught the two chromis to eat flakes(the LFS said they ate marine flakes, but mine refused too)

Not to wait a month and see how things go. . would like to add a sea star to it, a bigger one than the bristle stars. .

My little clowns have been here almost 2 wks, and seem to be doing well,e ating well, they've taught the chromis to eat flakes, so Im tickled. . .

I do wonder if the bristle worm has eaten my snails, as I had 5, now I can only see two. . .have no clue where my gargantuan one I had went. . unfortunately with all the 'dead' shells in the tank, it's not easy to figure out if they're dead or if they're hiding. .I don't think so

Got the pump for the skimmer fixed thanks to Marine Dreams, and a lot cheaper than I thought it would be. Maybe I'm overly worried, but didn't know if the regular filter was enough for water circulation in this tank.

Now to figure out what lovely I'm going to add next month

Tanks been up and running for awhile. . just did a massive water change, ni preparation of getting my hood in and hopefully have the tank ready to buy my 1st coral
It is now stocked with
1. Watchman goby
2. 3 Chromis, I had to humanely euthanise one of these buggers last month.
3. 1 Dwarf Hawk(I love this little guy)
4. 2 Percula Clowns
5. Royal Gamma Basslet
6. Coral beauty, yeah yeah, I know, he doesn't alawys do well with coral, but a) he was an impulse buy cuz I loev his colours b) I'm hoping if I keep him fed enough he won't.
so 9 fishies, tho I may rehome the chromis. And currently one pseudochromis who's in jail til I can get him to friend's house. Even tho the LFS said he'd be fine with the first four sets of fish, he was picking on the chromis, and killed the 6 line wrasse my friend bought the tank.
A myriad of hermit crabs & snails, one brittle starfish, one tiger starfish, and one sand sifter(tho he's not been doing a lot of sand sifting, he's been all over the tank tho! ) And at least one shrimp, they're hiding well, but I found one of them last night.
I hope to add
1 Mandarin Dragonette
1 6 line wrasse(last purchase)
1 Lawnmower blenny
2 Banghaii Cardinals
And of coruse another starfishie or two and shrimpies. . .
