that order came in great.
still picking off the occasional ZEN. i read an article at BZA that says that Flatworm eXit will take out ZENs, so i tried it as they instructed. still found 3 or 4 large ones within days. they did say to do it twice because you want to destroy any hatched eggs, but the first time didn't kill the adults. however i still have some flatworms so it needs to be done anyway.
maybe its a good thing that i have SO MANY zoanthids now the nudis can't wipe them all out in a couple days like they had done to a couple small colonies earlier in the battle.
unfortunately, i also have so many zoanthid colonies that the buggers could be snacking away and breeding somewhere out of sight and i am in for a heap of trouble very soon. i have removed about 5 egg masses/strings of theirs in the last 2 weeks, i just hope i'm not missing any. they are a real pain to remove, they don't just suction off with a plastic pipette, you have to scrape at them hard. i'll continue being diligent
i did get a pair Koralia
3s in the mail today.
the pair of K2s i don't think were enough believe it or not.
i was still getting a lot of dead spots and i was not liking it at all, i even added my Maxijets back into the main tank from the sump so the tank looks as cluttered as ever. so the new pair of K3 will raise another 500 gph and i may put the K2s in the sump because, seriously, the 2 K3 should be enough for a 30gallon tank,
right!
i was surprised to see that they aren't
much larger if at all. so that was a plus.
bubble algae is slowly coming back and some of the rocks that the corals were bought on have hair algae growing on them. time for another urchin. the other two cleaned out the tank and i could not get them to eat dried seaweed like i expected i could feed them, so i think they starved which is a real shame. they ate every type of algae i'd had in the tank- i was shocked they refused the sheets.
i'll request a small one when i order again, even if its too small to keep up with all the algae it should be able to not eat itself out of food.
i am also getting annoyed with those weird, odd-legged starfish, they eat coralline algae. i have white, starfish stamped spots on the rocks where they have snacked. they are multiplying as well. not sure how to smash them without just helping spread fragments that will simply regenerate. i have poured fresh topoff water directly on the rock they like the best, no sign of damage.
we all know that they would not survive if they were ornamental starfish that cost money and the water was accidentally dumped on them.
i have been using the "trust deals" eBay halide bulbs for at least 3 months now i think. quite pleased with them, the color is great and as long as both last at least 8 months they should be decent value. i bought 2 of the 150 watt 20k. using one at a time of course. around $40 shipped.
so, its been busy around here but the tank seems to be holding up well. any issues are merely annoying and ongoing but not disastrous... hopefully it will stay that way.
i'll post a FTS soon if i can, later today perhaps. i have a few hairy spots and i need to scrape film algae and coralline, but the corals are doing well, my flower coral is looking rather magnificent.
