Welcome

Thanks for checking out my Blog. Here is a little background on how I got started.
I started in Saltwater very unsuccessfully in the late 80's early 90's with a 55g Fish Only with bunches of dead coral skeletons. The tank was way overstocked with an undergravel filter, crushed coral, a skilter ,magnum cannister filter and
whisper power filter. Inhabitants were a Volitan Lion, minatus grouper, snowflake eel, blue throat trigger and a lunare wrasse. I lost the lion and grouper and gave away the blue throat and lunare wrasse to a cool LFS and for a while kept just Bob the eel. After Bob escaped and dried to the floor I turned the tank in to a fancy goldfish tank (orandas) I then rescued a Large Red Devil Cichlid from a 15g tank (oranda's were returned to the petstore) Bert the lived out his life in that tank and when he passed the tank was given away. I was tankless until Feb 2005 when I started my 24g Nanocube and Joined TRT shortly after.

The start of it all

One February day we went to Visit my Father in Law in Chicago but he wasn't home so to kill time while we waited I Talked my husband into checking out the LFS nearby where I had bought most of the fish in my first unsuccessful venture 10 years before. Our daugher Violet was 16 months old and was really having a good time in the LFS. and then we saw the 24g JBJ Nano cube they had set up. It didn't take much to convince my husband a reef tank would be great for Violet and it was only $250.00! so we ordered one.
Here is one of my favorite pics and I look at it often to remind me why we started this crazy hobby!

We purchased fully cured live rock and the live sand was from one of the LFS tanks so the tank cycled fairly quickly and 3 weeks later we were the proud owners of a True Perc a Green Bubble tip anemone Catalina Goby, a Xenia and a clean up package of 10 hermits and 10 turbo snails.( I had yet to Join TRT at this point ).

So I botched the acclimation process and killed all 10 snails and caused a huge ammonia spike that killed the Catalina and almost killed the clown .
The LFS replaced the snails (after the tank recycled) and gave us credit on the Catalina goby (Which is a cooler water fish and not suitable for a reef anyway). We then went through a huge algae bloom in the water column for about a month

First Post

This is my first post on TRT !
http://www.thereeftank.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=48526

We were sold the nano cube as being fine for the BTA He did last about 11 Months but he really needed much more light than the stock nano cube can provide. Also anenomes need a much more established tank it was wrong to add him as one of the first inhabitants
