Water Anyone?

Thought I would share a picture of my recently upgraded RO/DI unit (Thanks ToddG for the group sale...$100 savings). I went from a small 35gpd unit bought at BioReef to the new Spectrapure MAXcap 180gpd. The small unit did its job fine for the Nano but took all day and with the new tank (120g) just around the corner it was time to upgrade. The new unit is a beast and a little overkill but it sure can put the water out. I currently have it set up so that the waste is feeding the old unit but would consider selling it if anyone is looking. I'm looking for the right storage containers to finalize my setup so if you have any ideas please post.

Readings:

Line Pressure = 61
TDS IN = 80 - 90
TDS OUT = 0

TDS of Waste feeding smaller unit = 160 - 180
TDS OUT of small Unit = 0

After I find a good storage container, If anyone needs some water in a pinch or in an emergency just let me know.

Mike

Very nice.... How much extra water would you by chance have? I just started getting my water ready to fill my 75g up on Weds and it may take until Thurs or Friday to get all my water ready..... Currently have about 10g so far in RO tub and will probably be about 30g short on Weds. So if you would PM me if you have extra that would be great.

Currently there is no extra water. Still looking for the right storage containers. I'm thinking ....one for fresh and one for mixing salt water.

I use the grey rubbermaid trash cans from Lowes for storage. They are made of heavy material, cost about $30 brand new and are the perfect size for my setup.

The 44 gal "Rubbermaid BRUTE" trash cans with the detachable dollies @ either Lowe or Home Depot are perfect. I have one for mixing salt & one for taking water out of the tank. Use them together for water changes is ideal. I use them sort of like a gauge. What ever you pump out of the tank in to one can, you pump that amount back in with "new" saltwater from the "mixing can". BTW, I have a 210 gallon water vat for sale.

...Duval Containers. They are right there at the 10-95 exchange.I use the 15gal ($15) and 30gal ($32) plastic drums...Those were the prices about 3 years ago. What is nice about theses drums are theyare shipping drums.Seal up real tight.I used the 15gal (5 of them) a few times getting water from Hanna Park.I was really after the plankton for baby seahorses.

Glad you like the ro/di unit Mike. I love mine. No more waiting forever...!

I am like you, trying to figure out what to do with excess water. I have 1 of the Brute cans already. I only used it to cure some liverock in and not using it now. But will put it to use soon. I may buy another and use one for fresh, the other for salt, like mentioned above.

I also never thought about feeding my old ro/di unit with the waste of the new one. I have one of the filters direct units just collecting dust. I might as well put it to use! Thanks for the tip.
