vortech issue
OK I have a problem with my vortech - it won't stay together. it'll run for few days then I'll walk in to find the propellor part laying in the sand bed. My side glass is 1/2" and I have the pins set properly and the cord is 2" above the motor as directed. and all glass is clean inside and out. The layers are motor - rubber pad - glass - plastic disc - propellor
I don't think any of my critters are causing this - my biggest is a 7" naso tang which I've never seen her near it and it's not her area she normally stays in.
Here are some pics - see if you see anything wrong. I will try to call ecotech on Monday if we can't figure out anything here.
Thanks

I dont have a Vortech, first off. But does it grab good initially? With my Tunzes, the magnets are polarized obviously, and if I dont have the magnets rotated properly, the connection wont grip as good as you would think it should. So I rotat the magnet, and they suck together. I dont know if thats what you are experiencing, but its all that I can add that might have a slight chance of helping lol.

I do get good magnetic attraction initially. I've considered lowering the spacer setting but would like to see why it isn't working as it should - hoping user error somewhere!!

Kim it looks like in the last pic the you dont have the impeller section in the right possition, on the guard there is a section that doen't have slots in it and its supposed to be up ! Try that And don't try the spacer at a thick glass setting or it will put a drag on the impeller and it wont spin freely.

Kim,
Try Vortech tech support. They are pretty good, as it seems that these have had all kinds of problems.

No kidding, thats how I imagined flow was caused.
Right w hen I was up in the air between a Vortech Mp40w kit and a Tunze stream kit, I remember this thread. Choice was made lol
