topic: fish food Pellet Vs Frozen
I picked up formula one pellet food from Danco's and have been using the product for a few days now and I am very happy. Since I have zero time the dried food is easier for me to use and my fish get to eat every day. The Pink square anthias loves the stuff and it comes in carnivore and herbivore targeted pellets. I also use cyclopeeze flakes but they do not sink as fast and the strong current in the tank makes the flakes break up into small pieces and they go everywhere. I am using sushi grade NORI from publix for 1.89 a bag too. I still use frozen mysis shrimp and lifeline time to time and soak all food in selcon.
What do you all feed your fish? I just thought I would start a reef related topic since we have been on a 2 month rant.

I know pellet food is very very high in phosphates... Right now I have been feeding our fish everything I can to keep them alive. We use the sushi stuff from publix also.

I feed flake, pellet & frozen. I alternate between the frozen & dry. When I feed frozen, I use a blend of 4 or 5 different things.

We use those same pellets and the fish love them. They love Formula One Flake too, for a change of pace from the pellets and mysis.
When you put the pellets in your tank, do all your Nass. snails instantly pop out of the sand?? Ours do!

I use the Omega One garlic pellets and Formula variety pack that I picked up at Danco's, and the Frozen Cyclops I got at Robs.... However, I alternate days on feeding.
Days I use the Formula cubes, I use about 1/3 of each cube type and cut up into small slivers because of the low livestock load in my tank. The occupants seem to love this food.
Other days I use the Frozen Cyclops and Omega pellets. My snails and hermits go nuts over the pellets and have been seen snapping at my clown when he tries to take them away. As for the cyclops, the corals really seem open up when I feed with it.

I only feed ocean nutrition prime reef flakes. It seems to work for me, they all eat it up. Once in a while if I have anything left after my puffers shrimp, I'll smash it up a little and let them have a real small piece. But its flakes for me for the most part.

Sorry. No internet at work today.
We feed pellet, frozen, mysis, cyclopeze, nori, etc..
I'd like to try to make my own sometime. I know there are a lot of locals that have a special mix.

I feed Reef Chilli, live phyto, and a little bit of frozen bloodworms, mysis, cyclopseze, brine, veggie cube, and daphnia.
I have just started trying some frozen Krill and tubiflex worms.
This yields enough for a two days worth the feeding for all my tanks. I mix food about every 3-4 days.
For damsels and for general tank health I feed a little formula 2 w/ garlic to kinda fill the damsels up so they don't hog all the frozen food.
I know it sounds like a lot of food but I like to provide the best variety I can, this isn't just for my fish, its for my coral also, many of which are varacious eaters.

In the morning I usually feed all dry food: formula one, kelp, and spirulina flakes along with new life spectrum pellets.
In the evening they get a mixture of frozen: formula one & two (varies), mysis, krill, bloodworms, enriched brine (not every time), plankton, and a homemade mix from fresh fish, shrimp, squid, clam, garlic, and algae (red, purple, nori). I also add Golden Perls from time to time. Once a week I'll add 3 drops of kent's garlic xtreme and let it soak.
I've noticed when feeding variations of the frozen mix several of the fish are very picky and find their choice food among the mix. If it's not there they spent their time searching through the food and don't eat anything. This is why I feed a wide variety of the frozen and also make it a point to not always feed brine.
I also use to feed phyto (1/2 cup a day), but my setup crashed a while back and I have not had time to sterilize and start again from a new
bottle of DTs. Not only did it benefit the tank inhabitants, but it compete for nutrients, which curbed the growth of nuisance algae.
What I felt was not worth the money and time was feeding DT's oyster eggs. Has anyone noticed positive results from this? Did you turn off your return pump each time when feeding?
