suffered a loss
Came home last night to find my powdered brown tang dead. I presume it was from Ich, I noticed some white spots on him the day before. Didnt realize it would happen so fast, o well, such is life.

Thanks guys, no I did'nt have him in Qt, I only noticed a few white specs the other day. Yes I do have other fish so I'm alittle concerned about them too. I havent had him that long maybe a month or so. It was a great looking fish.

Ok, so now I'm pretty sure that another fish has Ich, what can I do. Is this my fate that the rest of the fish in the tank will get it and die. Whats the chances of things living. Any input would be great.

There are so many threads out there about ick & how to treat it that you may get several different answers. This is just my opinion & know of several people that have ick in their tanks & have not lost a fish.
If the other fish seem healthy, stress free (besides the ick) & are eating I would leave them alone, & just watch them. Make sure they continue to eat & feed them well. I am a firm believer in adding garlic, selcon or zoecon to fish foods for extra benefits, some say this helps while others say it does not.
If your other fish start to look bad you could also QT & treat w/hypo (I have done this & it works) or cupermine (have never done this but is suppose to be a very safe copper treatment).
Good Luck if you need a QT tank let Ed know he has several laying around.

The powder brown is one of the must quarantine fish IMO... They are ich magnets. But I quarantine all fish now as the powder brown is the one that brought velvet into my tank and wiped out about 2K of fish in 18 hours.

I have had several outbreaks of ick..I use this stuff called kick Ick (I get it at aqua zoo) its safe to use with reef and inverts..It usually takes a whole bottle but it has been very successful for me..and I haven't lost any fish

I would be very careful with kick Ick. I know several people that have big reef issues when using kick Ick and the ick came back. I always use a QT for fish. In your case, following what Stacey (racerw's better half) said is best IMO.
