sps questions w/ pics

for those with vortechs:
how close are you being able to place sps in the path of the flow - I had one frag that died literally within days and now this frag has some tissue loss on the couple of arms that are most directly in the flow path. Any ID on this coral would be nice too.
My setting is on constant and the frag is about 12" away from powerhead


I'm just now getting more into the sps's and I got this one from bioreef right before Racer bought it. They had it in the back tank and it was all brown. It's growing and starting to colorup blue but this is a strang growth pattern. I'm wondering when & if it will develope any tissue on those tips? Has anyone had growth like that? I assume it's a blue tort??

Again - not sure who I got this from but it went from brown to burgundy to now deep purple with green polyps at the base Marineduud maybe? Any ID's?

Some corals do ok and others dont. Reef crest offers a more varied flow. Maybe try that?

I agree with Teach, use reef crest or the pulse setting for a more random flow. That is what you want. I have mine aimed between my two islands but I can see if it was aimed at a coral it would blow off tissue. I would think if you had the setting not on constant, 12" would be OK.
