SPS color change
I have been taking monthly photos of some sps colonies to try and document the growth and color changes that occur. Here is one of the most noticeable ones that I have observed. Same camera and settings were used for each pic with no adjustment to the photo. The color is close but not exact due to the digital cameras lack of settings. There is no white balance adjustment other than some presets and the 10k Reeflux messes up the camera a little bit. I just have it set on auto and use a photo box to get the camera down into the water. There is no macro mode either so I can't take any cool down to the polyp photos. First pic is from March when I picked the colony up from Rob's. The last pic was taken just a few days ago. I wish that some of the lighter blue color had stayed with it. I'm beginning to think that I may be running my lights for too long (10 hours is current cycle). I may drop to 8 for the next few months and see what happens. It will help with the heat during the day anyways.

That is a great sequence of growth and color change shots!
Is that March of this year that you picked it up? If so, you must be doing something right to have that much growth in 2 months. Congrats and keep up the good work.

Thanks, it was March of this year that the first pic was taken. I have been very happy with the Reeflux 10k bulb for both color and growth. I run no other supplemental lighting but have been considering a set of actinics to help boost the colors.

Good information to have, my bulbs are due to be replaced in a couple of months and I may give the Reeflux a try now.

A few changes in the frag tank so I haven't kept up with the pics. New racks so everything has been moved. Started 8 hour photoperiod and put in a new bulb not too long ago. Here is the latest pic of same colony. It's been moved so it is facing a different way. It's hard to tell but there has been good growth and the color is coming in stronger on the tips. Same camera with no usable settings so sorry for the pic quality.

Here's another interesting one. Picked up from Bioreef in April I think, that is when the first pic was taken. It looked like a light pinkish color and I was hoping it would go more pinkish to red maybe. Here is a pic from today, you never can tell which way they will go. I really like the way it is coloring up. Sorry for the bluriness of the first pic.

Where did you get the Reeflux bulbs from?

Bioreef. They keep them in stock. I'm running the 250w 10k SE now but I may bump up to the 400w soon.

Thanks for sharing, Jason!
Interesting as to the color change on the 2nd acro (I would have guessed the same as you).
If you haven't had a chance to visit Jason and peek at his frag "tub" -- haha, you need to schedule some time (very impressive)...
