They are not bad skimmers for the price, but not top of the line either. They need to be cleaned often to maintain max efficiency. I lengthened the output on mine to skim much, much wetter (is wetter even a word). Straight out of the box they skim way too dry IMO. I would love to get a beckett injector mod for mine and a better pump at some point.

Still not getting any dirty water brian?

I Like my impact skimmer and probably wont replace it for sometime. It was a bit expensive for what you get but it does a fine job and its put together real well. I put the beckett mod on it also and got better results. I dont like how you have to remove the entire top to clean the cup. I am running a mag 7 on mine. Joseph should I get a bigger pump? I have the one rated for 220 gallons

It does suck having to remove the entire top to clean the collection cup. I picked up a slightly used one (minus the pump) for $50 so I can't complain. The CA pumps that come with them are about the same quality as the rios. A mag 7 should be fine. I have a slightly smaller chinese pump on mine than the CA that normally comes with them. I need to get a mag pump for it some day.

Here is a pic from a while back. I have done away with the vinyl tubing and hard plumbed everything with pvc which makes a huge difference and I increased the height of the outlet by about 4 inches. I hate vinyl tubing. PVC gets much better flow rates.

Snap a pic when you can. I'd like to see the mod in action as I will definitely be adding one in a month or two.
