Protein Skimmer Question Venturi Question Actually

OK,
So I have a hang on skimmer..... I don't like it but I've come to terms with it haha. BUT The venturi, that is connect to the pump just so happens to be connected directly under the lights. The position of the venturi cause a problem every couple of months. Coraline algae will grow in the clear venturi and messes with the bubble production.
Here's my question?
I first thought this idea was crazy, but after hearing how certain glue and stuff can be safely used int he tank i figured why not.
I want to use a sharpie marker to color the clear parts of the venturi black..... This way light wont be able to penetrate the outside and algae growth wont disrupt the skimmers performance

Please let me know what you guys think, and other suggestion are more than welcome
Thank you

I don't think I would use a sharpie...but there are paints that can be used that are reef safe.

Krylon fusion spray paint would do the trick and is reported as being reef safe. I would clean the surface really well and rough it up slightly so the paint will bond. Allow the full amount of drying time before putting it back in the tank.

I'll definitely use that paint if its reef safe. I was pushing for the pen so i didn't have to take the whole skimmer apart haha Lazy
Thanks

People use sharpie's all the time, myself included.
I've never heard of a problem with it.

I am with Jeff. In this hobby you will not have the skimmer long anyway.

No Matt, just making a joke that in this hobby we are upgrading all the time. Seems like I get a new skimmer every year.

Here is what I would do Matt. Use a sharpie now and when you take your skimmer down for cleaning you could paint it then if you wanted too.
