Well I after a bit more tinkering and thinking I corrected my problem. I had attached a 6" Flex tube between the drain bulkhead and the ballvalve and had my drain line extended only about 1" from the bottom of the sump. I shortened the tube between the bulkhead and ballvalve to where there is no space in between and shortened the drain line to just about 3" below the surface of the water. There is about 75% less bubbles and gurgling now in the drain side of the sump and I'm running everything full blast. The drainage is keeping up very well with the return pump and the water in the return chamber stays constantly about 2" above my pump. So I think I've solved my problem.

Next step is getting my skimmer hooked up and running and see how it does in the initial FW run. Just a couple of more kinks to work out and I'll be ready to move it inside and start cycling.

Thanks for all the info!

Will a 2" coverage be enough if you factor in evaporation? I know when the water level drops in my tanks that have internal (Mag) pumps. When the least little bit of the pump is not covered by water, it gets very loud. Also the less covered the pump is, the hotter it will run

Chris,
You should go ahead and start a new tank thread so we can all follow along. I would love to see pictures of the progress.
