OT: The big dog park in the sky

After 13 1/2 years, we had to have our Cocker Spaniel "Nikki" put to sleep today. Late last night she had a stroke with no chance of recovery. This comes 1 year and 5 days after we lost our first Cocker after 15 years.

She was much loved and will be missed by us all.

Beautiful dog. I am so sorry. Had to go through that with a cat and I bawled for days. At least you know she had the best life possible and she knew that she was loved.

Sorry to hear about your loss. My 2 huskies escaped on sunday, and I was totally distraught. Both of them ran from my house, down 8 blocks, and into Pete's Bar(they know where the cheap beer is). A nice gentleman took them home, and a long story short they are back with me. I was also faced with my dog being hit by a car 3 years ago. Broken back, several broken ribs, and internal bleeding and ended up costing 4000 dollars, but you can not put a price on true companionship. Again I am very sorry to hear that.

I know what your feeling Dwight, had to put down a dog back a number of years ago and bawled like a baby. Now have a dog again thats 12 years old and know it's not long before it her time.

So sorry for your loss Dwight. It's hard now, but in a little while you'll be able to look back and remember all the funny quirks and cool little things Nikki use to do that made you laugh and she'll always be with you in your heart.

Sorry to hear this Dwight. We had to put down my cocker of 15 years last year. The hardest thing to do was watch my best friend go to sleep.

Thanks to everyone for the condolences and understanding. This is truly the hardest part of being a pet owner. When we had to put down our 15 year old last Nov., we knew it was her time, and were able to deal with it a bit better. This just hits so unexpected.

The other dogs (Sheila and Rudy) were very solemn today, and even the cat. Sheila still went out and tree'd her squirrels, though.

Hopefully it will be a few years before we have to go through this again. Losing 3 pets over a 12 month period is too much.
