Ot

we are going to be painting our house soon and was wondering if anyone might have a sprayer that attaches to a compressor that we could borrow? We have the compressor - just don't see the sense in buying a gun I'll hopefully only use once!

I don't have a spray gun for a compressor but I do have a Wagner Power Painter. You would be the first one to use it I bought it about a year and half ago and in my typical fashion it is still in the box. Let me make sure I can put my hands on it first. If I can, then you are welcome to borrow it if you want.

I read that the power painter paints on 2 coats at once but uses twice the paint?? I went to Lowes tonight and they said 400sq ft to each gallon of paint - that I would only need 5 gallons of paint to do my whole house. That just doesn't sound right.
We are going to be doing the house probably in parts so I would most likely have to rent the gun 3-4 times so that may not be too economical in the long run - if you have one and plan to come down again in the next month or so maybe we can co-ordinate something??!

hick - thanks for the offer!!!

How soon are you going to be painting? Without a doubt I will have my hands on it by the first of March(I have to be moved by then) but if you wanted to start before then, I will hunt it tomorrow. If nothing else, you could try it and see how it does and if it doesn't work out then you aren't out a whole lot. If you are going to paint in stages, then do the first stage with the power painter and see how it works.

first week of March we will start replacing siding then paint as we finish the siding so probably mid March. I had a wagner sprayer once and used it to paint some doors and the finish was rough - but it was a smaller sprayer than what you probably have.

I am cleaning out my tool shed this weekend and will keep it out for you. When you get ready for it, just let me know. If the next club meeting is before you are ready, I will bring it with me then.

Rough texture can be laid down by thinning the paint though. The rough texture comes from the paint being too thick and not getting atomized good. It goes on splotchy and thick and doesn't lay down. When you thin it, it takes more coats but you get a better finish. Same thing they do in cabinet shops and painting cars (I have done both).
