New manifold
I've been running my 72 bow with a mag 950 through a 3/4" manifold with 7 outlets, and today I built a 1" manifold with 5 outlets.
HOLY CRAP!! What a difference. The circulation is just crazy. My wife is actually worried that the current is too strong for the fish! LOL!!
I was thinking about buying some powerheads today, because the circulation was really crappy, but figured I'd try this first since pvc is cheaper (I spent $17 at ACE, would have been cheaper at HD, but they didn't have the fittings!). I won't be needing any pheads now!!
I used to have hardly any surface agitation, and now, my t-5's actually cause ripple effect in the tank.
Totally awesome!!!

You got any pics of how and where you have the placement of the outlets?? I've been considering doing this for my mag7 on my 55g. It's that or make a closed loop....

Note: I "dry fit" this on top of the canopy since it's the same size!
The nozzles in the back corners point straight down. This clears out all the dead spots behind and around the rocks.
The nozzles on the front corners make the water stream cross about 6" above the sand bed in the front of the tank.
The nozzle to the right of the cross brace points to the middle of the front glass, and assists in random flow, and gives great surface action.
The long gap on the left is where my overflow is.
All the pipe and fittings are 1". I used 1" x 3/4' reducers, and 3/4" - 1/2" hose bibs for the nozzles. The reasoning behind this is I'm going to add some DIY eductors!

I like the looks of that, I need something similar I think. You are connecting the PVC to the vinyl tubing it looks like? Are you going to use a hose clamp to connect the two I suppose?? This might really be my alternative to adding a close loop to the system maybe.....HHmmmm so many options, I love it when others share their projects and setups!! Thank you for the pics....now I need to get off my butt.
BTW.... GO T5 HO lighting!!! You are the only other local person I've seen post about using it. I love it!
Good job again.

Looks great Ikaria!! Nice and clean and will no doubt help out with the flow. I do have one question though. Are your hose bibs meant for 1/2" ID hose? The reason I ask is that I wonder what the ID of the bib itself is. From the pic is looks fairly narrow. But with eductors, the flow will spread back out I suppose.

Reelfreak - I am using the vinyl tubing and hose clamps to connect the pvc from the manifold to the pump discharge pipe. Nice, smooth transition around the bottom of the tank without anymore elbows, plus a way to remove the pump without adding a true union.
Goldstripe - The barbs are for 1/2" id hose. The id of the barbs are 3/8".
And YES, I've been very happy with my T-5's!!

I am using 8 T-5's on my seahorse tank. I have clams and acros in there. I think they are great for just about anything but IMO, SPS still color up better under the halides. I dont have the flow in the seahorse tank though and I have 50/50 mix of T5's so the acros color could be affected by slow flow/light color combo. I know this for sure though- NO HEAT!!! and that is a good thing! If they made a 6 foot 12 light T5 setup I probably would make the switch cause my family room gets hot from the chiller/halides.

kerri, what ballast are you running on your t5s. The Icecap 660 overdrive the lamps and colors up the SPS nicely.
