jbjlighting 1/2hp chiller

Does anyone have a 1/2hp jbj chiller or other 1/2hp chiller on a 180 gallon? If so how long does it run to cool the tank back down? Do any of you have problems with the contollers on the chiller? Mine does not drop for at least 20 to 30 minutes after it starts running. When it drops it is only.2 degrees. So buy that time the tank water is cold. It runs now as much as 1hr 15 minutes before turning off. It has more then double the time to cool the tank. Any ideas? I was told by the company that it should be but about 30 minutes to cool the tank down.

Thanks

Not to sure bout JbJ chillers but the one (1/4hp) I'm selling thats on my 125 kicks on for between 2-5 min then shuts off. My lighting is fairly substantial as well, Dual 250 watt mh, 4 110 watt vho's. As well as 4 seio powerheads and three magdrives in the sump, my heat creeps up and the chiller runs probably 2-3 times/hour but never for very long even during the summer. Mine's not a JBJ though.

How much of a dent do chillers put into your electrical bills? I want to get one for the tank I want to set up. Probably a 1/15 HP or a 1/10 HP chiller.

I would get at least a 1/4 for a tank that size. I think a 1/3 is better. You will use more electricity with a smaller chiller.

You want a chiller that will handle more then you have. Other wise it will run a lot and the life of it will be very short. Also your electric bill will be higher too. When My chiller was working right it didn't raise my electric bill to much I say about 30.00 a month or so. The tank was set at about 80 so it turned on at 81 and off at 79 degrees. It cut on every 2 or 3 hours for 15 to 20 minutes depending on the room temp. This was when the lights are on.

As far as size go with a 1/3hp at least no smaller or you will wish you never bought it. I had a 1/3 and it ran 25 to 30 minutes longer at times then my 1/2hp chiller does. (when it was working right) Good luck.

You get what you pay for so buy the best and forget the rest.
