How do you.....

How do you introduce new fish to an already established tank? Everything I try to add to my tank just doesn't stand a chance? It gets picked on by almost everything. Especially 2 large domino damsels. I know with freshwater if I move the gravel around and the ornaments it breaks up the territories. Is it the same with salt? I am afraid if I start moving around rocks I could end up with a landslide.

It is hard to introduce new fish with damsels, they are very territoral and aggressive. I actually had to get rid of all three of mine because I was tired on not being able to introduce any new fish. I just gave them away. So I guess you could get rid of them or trying moving your rock around so that it may help with the territory issue. But I think in the long run you should get rid of them if you are not that attached to them.

Usally you decide by buying the calmest fish 1st and work your way up to the most aggressive which would be your last fish.Besides what the other said is to turn the lights of to help relax them.

I wonder if the mirror trick would work with damsels. Place a mirror on the side of the tank away from the new fish you are adding. Let the damsels be distracted by their reflection. Then add the new fish.

For damsels, I like the flush method... jk for a little fish, they can be beasts...

I'd get rid of the damsels. Their job is complete if your tank is established.

I had 3 Domino's years ago and they killed everything. Once they reach the 3 to 4 inch size they have no fear and can get very territorial. Unfortunately, as you are finding out they are even worse in groups. After they killed a $120 dollar Angelfish that I just bought, I had no problem moving them to the freezer to euthanize them. A bag of water and an hour or so in the freezer is all it takes. It's the most humane way to put down fish. I'm afraid you won't have many options until you get rid of them. They are experts at defending their territory and dodging nets.

Wow what a great thread! I also agree with the dacro and the last several, it only takes one fish for you to wish you had taken them out earlier!!!!

Thanks guys!!! I was given these damsels early on and thought "I really don't want those" but my hubby thought they were so cool b/c they are HUGE!!! I mean they are probably 4-5 inches big. I think I may see if I can trade them at Ocean Reef. I wonder if they would take them. They are beautiful, but attack even me when my hand is in the tank.
