Ok.. I'm going to buy a cheap clip on fan this week for the sump... I think it's crazy the water still gets this hot now with 6 fans blowing on it..and my AC set on 73.... it cools down at night to 79 ... so I know it's the lights doing it.

Other than a chiller.. any other suggestions? Does anyone know anybody that might be able to build/stain a matching canopy that is taller than my current one?

The stand/canopy is from All Glass Aquariums ... and I don't believe they offer a taller canopy in this style... actually I haven't found that they offer a taller canopy in any of their styles... but then again I don't see a website for them anywhere so I'm going by what I can find on other websites.

Check with Rob you may have to take a door off the stand for them but the guy that builds stands and canopies can match it so close you wont be able to see any difference.

Okay..will check with him.

Have to go pick up a new Goby anyways... mine seems to have gone missing... haven't seen him for three or four days... can't find him on the floor not sure what happened to him.... I know the water has been on the warm side.... but I don't think it would have killed him... he's been in there for 4 or 5 months w/ it that temp.

Are the new fans blowing directly on the water?
When I added my new fans I had them just blowing into the space between the lights and the water.
But I changed them to point down to the water and noticed a 1-2 degree difference.
How good is the ventilation in the hood?

Yeah.. I had the fans blowing right down at the water. I decided for a test today to move them to the sump to see if it made any bigger difference... for grins and giggles.

The ventilation in the canopy isn't that great..because it's a short canopy... which is where most of the problem seems to be

All Glass is now Aqueon. You might be able to have your current canopy extended by adding a wood frame under it. It's a little hard to explain but what you want to to is add wood strips to the bottom of your current canopy to lift it up higher. A few braces and some matching stain will make it look good.

Doesn't look like they have a taller one.

In my experience, I wouldn't worry too much about 80-82 degrees. In fact, my frag tank in the garage sits at 87 during the summer with no problems at all. Consistent daily temps with gradual seasonal changes will not cause problems for most people. The main problem with increased temps is lower oxygen levels but a protein skimmer and good water flow will fix that. I think trying to obtain the constant 78 degree year round recomended temp is not necessary. Check out this link.

It is getting to 82 with six fans on. It gets to 84 or higher w/out them even though my AC is always on 73. I've had two long tentacle anemones die...and I'm assuming it's from the heat.

I'd love to buy Louise's green carpet anemone, but I don't want to chance the warm water killing it.

I'm wishing I would have went with the 125 gallon, because I think my VHO's would have worked w/ that...

How is everything else in your tank doing? Anemones are problematic to begin with and I would not judge your tank condition based soley on them. Most anemones are doomed from the day they are collected and the fact that you are having trouble with them may not have anything to do with your tank.

One of my hammer corals seems to be sensitive to the temperature as well...but other than the constant battle with algae ( 100 snails ... and a pig of a sea urchin ... and it's still bad ) .... most of the other inhabitants seem ok with it.... but then again .. I'm hesitant to buy anything sensitive in nature because I don't want to kill it....

I would work on the algae issue before fighting the temperature problem. Chances are whatever is causing your algae growth is more responsible for the demise of your previous anemones than the temperature.

I am pretty sure the fact that the temperature was getting so high is contributing to more algae growth... I could be wrong.. but that seems to me to be what triggered it.
