Congrats on being the guinea pig I am considering the same fans, but they claim a very low CFM for 6 fans. I wonder if their is a cheap temp controller that would work with them.

You mean something that monitors the water temp..then turns them on? If anyone has any ideas for that.... let me know...

Heh... I'm a complete amateur when it comes to trying to figure that stuff out!

there is the ranco controller, but it is a little pricey. There are some temp controlers for computer case fans that look interesting though. just need to figure out a way to wire a plug to them.

This is how I have my fans hooked up.
I have two Ranco controllers, one for the fans and one for the chiller.
When the tank reaches 79 the fans kick in, and if the tank reaches 80 the chiller kicks in.
I just added 4 computer fans (to bring me up to 6 fans total) which has virtually eliminated my need for the chiller.
Note that I keep my house temperature at 78.
I think if I adjust my new fans to blow on the water better they will work better.
I chose my new fans based on a combination of CFM and noise level.
They are very very quite but don't have the air flow I'd hoped for.
I would get slightly noisier next time to get more air.

If these work well, I am considering them or the azoo fans. I just picked up a used medusa dual stage controller for cheap that should work just fine for a heat and fan combination. Provided it still functions

Fan just arrived.. and MikeAtJax was right.. they won't mount on the tank as is... seems a bit silly to me that they didn't make the plastic mounting brackets with just a bit more space in there.

Was going to mount them pointing down from my canopy.... but the canopy wood is too thick... so I forsee taking two small pieces of ply wood or something.. and super glueing them to the canopy in the back..so I have something to mount it on.

I might be able to get them to stay on that plastic molding around the top of the tank..but I'm not sure I trust that... plus.. it will get in the way of my 'netting' frame over the top of the tank.. so if I can get them to stay there... I will have to cut my frame down a bit ...

Carole, if you do decide to glue a couple of pieces to your canopy, you may want to use gorilla glue instead of super glue. The gorilla glue will adhere the 2 wood surfaces a bit better.

I use it all the time at my store to repair some split or broken pieces of wood.

If you need some just stop by the store and I'll give you a bottle.

I think there is fairly good flow from these fans... my biggest complaint so far is that the mounting options suck. If they would have made the clamping brackets a little wider w/ longer screws..they'd be much handier.

I tried to glue ply wood the plastic molding ... that didn't work... came right off. I was going to try putting the plywood on the canopy but the lights are in the way and would probably melt the fan.

So I finally mounted it on my cross brace..and have another fan blowing in from the back of the canopy... so I'll see today if it makes a difference.

My tank stayed at 80.4 today.... but the test will be when it's not 60 something outside and I have the AC on at 73.

For the last two days I've had my windows open since it's been cool..so I'm not sure if this is contributing to the cooler water temp...or if it's the fans working.

how far away from the wall is ur tank, increasing the distance could help, allows more air to move around, and try puttin a fan in top of hood to pull the air out, it ceates a vacuum and can help more than pushing air in.

Haha... move the tank... it's 150 gallons...full ... I don't think there is any moving it It's about 2 inches from the wall ... I've tried one fan going in and one fan going out.... now I have one going in, and one blowing in through a hole on the top, which we are going to cut to fit the fan this weekend ( a 4x4 square )

The aquatek fans aren't helping much ... even though they do create a lot of flow.. the water temp is still getting to 82.

I'm thinking my best option now, which may still be cheaper than a chiller, is to try and investigate finding a taller canopy which would still match the stand ( no I don't want to build one myself... I want it to look good.. and I'd probably screw it up... I'm anal about the canopy matching the stand... wood/stain ... this is the focal point of my living room .. so I don't want to take the chance of trying to do it myself ).

Does All Glass Aquariums not have a website? I googled it and was unable to find one... I'm was hoping they might have started offering a taller canopy for my stand ( cherry mission stand and canopy ).
