GE Window and Door Silicone

I know I have read on RC numerous times in the past that GE window and door silicone is safe for reef applications and have used it for nearly 2 years myself. I normally buy this at wal-mart but I was in my LHS and decided to pick up a tube there.

My LHS is next door to my former LFS that has been there for years. Normally I don't go into this LHS for anything accept aquarium stuff or just a little something to save me from going across town to Lowes. At any rate, the people at my LHS know that if I am in there, then it is usually aquarium related. Before I could get out the door with the tube, every person in the hardware store told me not to use this silicone on an aquarium. They all suggested the 4oz tube of all glass silicone for 5.00 of course. Please tell me that they are just relying on the label and what the LFS next door has told them and that this is safe.

I have never experienced problems but I thought perhaps there was an underlying problem I was not aware of. This is the only silicone I have used on my aquariums except when I built my sump I used a caulk gun size tube of all glass silicon for 12.00 just to say that I did use the right silicone.

This silicone is safe right? I wouldn't use it to put together an aquarium, but I trust it for all other aquarium apps.

As long as it doesn't have a mildew resistant chemical in it it should be OK But I never use any thing but All-glass or Perfecto Silicone just to be on the safe side.

they sell silicone at the hardware store that says " aquarium safe ". Like duud said stay away from the mildew resistant chemical, it will make your tank coral resistant and maybe fish resistant

I knew I remembered something about mildew resistance and anti-microbial. That's why it was determined window and door was safer than kitchen and bath.

Thank you so much for putting my mind at ease. I thought the LHS knew something I didn't about the product.
