Galaxia died from no light for a day?

One of my bulbs didn't fire up yesterday .. and I was at work so didn't know it til I got home......

I have a galaxia colony that is right in the center of where two of the bulbs hit. The half that didn't have any light yesterday appears to have died... I didn't think that no light for a day would kill it? Is that normal? It's been in my tank for two years.... went from one small piece to a whole colony.

I agree,.. I've had no light for 5 days before,.. heck,. I had no power for 16.5 hours right in the middle of my lighting cycle and didn't loose any coral including SPS.

I don't think that no light for a day would have caused this,.. now if a MH bulb cracked and turned on for a bit then went out it would cause death of corals,.. the UV from a cracked outer envelope will cause a whole lot of damage very fast.

Hmm..it's not cracked...it's old ( 1yr 1 mo old ).. I'm getting ready to order new lights.. was testing some from the club last week.

I will test my parameters tonite.

I just did a water change last week. I have been having temp issues.... but the water was 82 yesterday...

It's weird though..cuz just the half of the colony for that light died.. and a small piece of this galaxia fell a few months ago on a smaller part of the rock..and grew.. and the same half of that colony did too..

My colony went without lights for 4 days several years ago during the hurricanes. I didn't die back at all and is still going strong today.

Yeah this is just weird.. both of them on the same rock..only half died.. I dunno what is going on ...

I'm guessing it might all just be the temp problem.. then again..maybe the bubble coral my clownfish damaged the other day is excreting something and causing a problem.. I thought about taking it out and chucking it..but it looks to be healing itself...so I left it in there.

I'll test my water tonite though.

Yah.. I just took my water up to Rob's because I wanted to make sure my test kit wasn't wrong... they said the water tested okay..

I just shut that light off and noticed there is some salt build up on one side..but no crack that I can see..when it cools off.. I'll take it out and inspect it better...
