Frag mounts

Since I am out of mounts, my lfs has been waiting for at least three weeks on boston aquafarms, and my monthly excuse to swing by Robs Reef is a couple weeks away, I had to find another frag mount option.

I have read that Lowes sells marble tile that is made up of 144 small squares. So I went to our brand new Lowes and bought a tile for $12. After pulling the backing off and using the wire brush attachment on my dremel to brush glue off of the back. I am left with 144 1"+/- square frag mounts.

Now, I am going to mount a frag to see how they grow. Looks like they would work great for zoanthids.

Is anyone else using something besides manufactured plugs or live rock for mounting frags?

You are very creative Paul. I'm sure you will use up all 144 before you know it. What are you fragging these days?

I read somewhere where this LFS mounted frags to colored golf tee's then priced them by color - neat idea

I can't seem to find the plastic golf tees, but I know stores like upscales.com uses them.

I am fragging some acros, but also some zoathids and palys. So far so good with the tiles.

Those are very cool! But, I generally give them away rather than bringing them in At $4/piece, that would break my bank account in a hurry. Now they do look like they help those of us with way to many corals in our glass boxes

yeah ... that is what i use them for. i am going to be using ALL of the real estate in my tanks from now on !!

That is a great idea using the tile. I am going to do the same next time!
