I have no idea if the problems we had were with PAR or not. It was just the color messing up. Its pretty impossible that we just had a bad experience with a 70w fixture, a 150w fixture, and two different 70w bulbs. When we ordered our replacement 70w bulb, rob and robsreef said other people were having the same problems and he returned some other bulbs for some other people. So this isn't an isolated incident.

btw let me say what people on RC always tell me. Instead of buying the cheaper product, trying it out, it sucking, then buying the more expensive one. Why not just buy the better one from the start and save yourself money. If those bulbs have problems then that is $40 you threw in the trash.

It might be that its not the bulb and it is a problem with the ballest ?

They use the same exact ballast for a 70w and 150w?

There were days my tank looked so brown and terrible, I absolutely planned on spending the 80$ on a different brand bulb. The 150w doesn't seem to do it as often as the 70w did, but when it does all I could think was how bad the tank looked.

aren't you the horse? Is there anyone in this club that actually has useful information other than marineduud? The biggest topic in this forum is a dead horse...

I was just stateing there could be a problem other than the bulb, I have seen ballest which cause the same thing and that voltage drops from the ballest will make the color change in the bulb. There are others out there that have no problems with the same bulbs like Reefneck and so on. Not saying anyone is wrong or right just other things to think about.

I at first thought it was a problem with the fixture/ballast and we had talked to rob about it. We first changed out our 70w bulb and the problem still continued but it didn't start to happen for about a month after we had the new 70w bulb. Besides that, you could take the bulb out of the fixture and put it back in and it work correctly most of the time for about a week and then start messing up again. We thought the problem was gone after we switched to the 150w fixture but once again, 6 months later, it started to produce brown colors again at different times. 1 day it could be blue and the next day it could be brown. Obviously the problem doesn't seem to be with every single kind of fixture they sell... This thread was first started based on points of view about the 70w bulb and no one on here has posted any info on that bulb other than me and my wife. Is there anyone else in this club that has experience with it besides us? Although our 150w ended up doing the same exact thing, it didn't do it for at least 6 months. How long has reefneck had his 150w?

This opens up the can of beans from the other end though as my fixture is only 3 months old. Perhaps in 3 more months it will start to misbehave.

# 14 sums it up... this is a hobby that encourages a lot of research, experience and "trial and error".

I apologize for poking a little fun at what I thought was another spiraling topic and nothing was meant by my comments.

I value most opinions on this and other forums, but recognize that they're just that, "an opinion"... Whether a person chooses to accept the statement(s), is their choice.

I personally don't respond to much because I can gain the knowledge and make decisions without a lot of chatter...

Again, I apologize...

I for one am tired of reading posts where you (and to a lesser extent, Discdogge) getting your undies in a wad everytime someone disagrees with you, has a different opinion than yours, or does not answer your post within 5 minutes of you posting it.

I have the same fixture as you do. I have had it in operation for over a year now (owned it for about 18 months in all) and have never had a problem with the 150w bulbs changing colors on me.

easy gang........

look,
when it comes to various bulbs.. does not matter who makes them.. it is how they are made. the coating inside is one if not the most important part of the bulb.
many things can happen, a bad batch. something in shipping. ...
some have had bad problems some have good..
every manuf. has problems from time to time.
