City water warning

I have a 25 GPD RO system that I would normally have to change the filters every 4 months. I would change the filters, test the TDS and if all looked good not test again for a few months.

Recently I have been having alge problems and I traced it to my water. Before my city water would measure a TDS of 253 and now it is in the 600s. My filters are only lasting a week. It appears that some work the city is doing on some pipes down the street is affecting water quality. I was told it should clear up within a week. Also there are special prefilters you can buy.

Tomorrow I am taking everything out and giving it a good scrub.

Test your TDS weekly!

Mike, I hear ya! Mine is not as bad as yours, but I bought 2 spectrapure high quality DI filters and am running them both inline. They are BOTH now exhausted in just 60 days (may be less, will have to check my ship date)! I removed each one to check TDS from each separately and readings are too high! Yikes, these guys weren't cheap! I've had some of my top layer of sand starting to turn brown and noticed a small amount of algae growth in a few spots, even with the prodibio doses. I thought it may have been some fresh homemade fish food I made recently, but found my inline TDS reading 20 from my ro/di! The city water was around 380. I think it is usually around 250 maybe.

BTW: Does anyone know where I can pick up DI carts local? I only need at least one for right now. My carts have the removable cap for resin refills. I have never tried this. If anyone knows where I can get resin or carts local or wants to sell me some if they have extra plz let me know.

You think thats bad, we are in middleburg and have well water, when they tested our water is was 10x the level just for treatment. We recently found out even though we are using a water softner and ro/di filter we were all getting sick from the water and my son was even having devolpmental issues.
We are now only using the water for batheing, cant wait to move!!

I am talking to a guy in south georgia that sells a special prefilter. Actually it is a compressed carcoal filter the removes different chemicals that reduce RO membrain life.
