ballast under the tank?
How many of you have your ballast under your tank, if so do you worry about the salty air down there?

My ballast is in the closet next to my tank sitting on a cinder block. I lost an icecap to salt air on a tank years ago.

I would bet that most will say under the tank. That's where my m/h ballasts are. VHO is attached to back of canopy. A lesson I learned the hard way, if your ballasts are underneath, block them up. I was cleaning my tank, making some pretty good wave action, when I started to notice a little tingle. Thinking is was just small cuts on my fingers, I kept right on scraping. Well, the tingle got worse & worse. So I deceided to investigate & what I found in the bottom of my stand was about 2" of water. Seems that the wave action I was creating was pushing water into my overflow & overfilled my sump. The worst part was I had just upgraded to 400's from 250's, so my brand new 400 dual was sitting in that 2" of water. Luckily no damage was done. One day I'll move mine outside.

Mine are on the back of stand to get more air circulation to keep the temp down and last longer!

When I get my new PFO ELECTRONIC 400 ballasts with long cords, I'll be placing on the side of stand by the wall, out of sight

My Icecaps are up on the plant ledge that is built into the wall behind the tank so I won't have to worry about the moisture or the heat.

just put them inside the tank. It will make a great place to glue frags to and it will keep the ballasts from getting hot.

Steve, in the tank. Will that help stimulate coral growth? Or maybe to much current?
