Another option we need to look for is Prestone Driveway Heat. It's only runs about $7 for 20 lbs.

Hey just wanted to throw something else into this 2 part mix debate. The use of kalwasser. Does anybody use it to supplement a two part solution or do you use it by itself along with pwc's?

I have kalk reactor that I run all of my top off through and then use the two part to supplement.

Thought you 2-part guys might be able to use this calculator in the future or to check you dosing. If you haven't already seen it.

Thanks Duud!!! We found this calculator very helpful in protecting against my over-dosing... haha

I only use kalk but I don't have PWC's. I am on Halides. I throw a cup in every several days or so. Its been doing the trick for my tank since December. I noticed increased growth in about 3 weeks.

I don't have but a few sps's and other high calcium absorbing corals so the ca and alk levels normally stay high after the initial low of using IO salt. My alk is always high according to Salifert and I have to NOT dose kalk for about 2 full weeks before the cal gets on the low side.

GA hasn't been very sps friendly so I don't have a managerie of SPS's like most of ya'll. I just have the few I got when I was in Fl. My tank is mostly softies by default. Whould be sps by choice now.

I was using cal/alk/mag but had stopped due to cost and I found my corals were growing faster without it. I am curious about these two part solutions/recipes and potentially a reactor, but I cannot justify buying a reactor right now given my bioload. I just don't know enough about the chemicals, their fuction, and potency to start messing with all that until I am more educated in the area.

With the new information that Saliferts quality could be going down the tubes, I am even more afraid to try anything for fear that I cannot test accurately. I haven't had my tests but about 6 months, but it is usually 6-12 months after a product starts going bad, that the complaints start rolling in to the manufacturer and become publically known. So I feel like my tests could be in that "bad quality" group.

There have been some good and informative links in this thread. Thanks

He is talking about Periodic Water Changes not power compacts.

Aha!!!! I thought that was strange that he made a connection between lights and chems, but I never looked at PWC as periodic water changes either.

Well in that case, all I do is add Kalk and PWC also. lol

Keyboard is back online, had to swap out batteries.

Right now as far as dosing goes I am only dosing 1L q wk because of my coral load or lack there of. I find that my dKh is always around 10 and Ca is about 400ppm. I am trying to get my system dialed in just right between bioload, skimmer and lights. Been having some color and growth issues and dont want to over due it with the kalk mix.

I've seen Dowflake in Pinch-a-Penny here in town, but they charged more than I paid to buy it online including shipping.

We'll be carrying 1, 2, and 5lb bags of Peladow, MagFlake, and Sodium Carbonate in the store, as early as next weekend.

Rob, how much is a 5lb of peladow gonna cost? You should also start carrying bulk Ferric Oxide.
