In a tank that small, I would go bb. Just to keep it cleaner.

Based on my 10 and 12, I can tell you the differences between them and my 90. The temp, salinity, ph, everything is going to fluctuate a lot more and be a lot harder to keep stable the smaller the tank is. Even ammonia and nitrates are going to be hard to handle. With a tank that small, you will need to be prepared to change the water every other day if not every day to keep it clean. Water changes that often make it very difficult to keep it stable though.
I have a 9W PC light that is in the canopy for my 12G tank that I am not going to use. If you are going to be at Rob's for the meeting, and want the light, you can have it.
I wish you the best with it.

Are you going to build a stand and top for this little tank?

Somehow, TRT didn't show me that post as being unread. Yes, that is a TON of light on a 2.5G tank. Way too much light in fact.

I'm not really planning on keeping fish in this tank. The light I ordered should fit on top and look good so I'm not going to put a canopy and its going on a shelf.
I'm not going to keep difficult corals, the plan is a lot of easy ones. It will be cheaper to have a 2.5 gallon tank full of coral haha
Thanks for the advice
Matt

Well, This project is on hold for the moment... I wont the auction on eBay for a ridiculously low price 1.36 with 20.00 shipping, when the guy normally sold this light for 10-20 bucks plus shipping. I was really excited and awaiting my light, until i get an email yesterday saying that his last shipment was defective and wanted to send me a refund. So i decided to scrap the project to avoid the hassle of this situation, Sad because i though ebay was about getting the deals

That really sucks and I am definitely sorry for you as I know how much you were looking forward to doing this little setup.

Matt, my offer for the light is still good. I have a 13W PC light that is in the hood of my 12G nano tank that I have no use for. If you want it, its yours and I can bring the canopy to the meeting next weekend.

I've done a couple of 2.5g picotopes... very easy to maintain thankfully. I have had one up and running now for about 6 months with no issues. Plenty of people do them on nano-reef.com CHeck some of those out for filtration ideas and what not. Good luck.

She took it down. It got to be too much trouble and a lack of space for it.

Yeah, it did suck. She also lost a 70 dollar hogfish in that tank and helped lead to her taking it down.
