I dont suppose theres a way to get a rotifer culture self replicating somewhere within a system? Example being adding a live culture to a refugium and then adding live phytoplankton for them to live on? I guess it doesnt work like that or there wouldnt be so many people trying to grow them independently. Is it because the planktonic soup amidst the oceans water column is too hard to replicate in the home aquarium? I guess other things need to be present in order for a sustainable rotifer culture to flourish.
One day I will do this plankton reactor/rotifer deal though. The micro organism - copepod world of the ocean is intriguing and Id enjoy trying to recreate the entire food chain. I do have a seahorse but he is busy eating amphipods. However I had caught a couple pregnant SHs and watched them give birth only to realize I was not equipped to raise the babies. So I took a trip back to the inlet to release them. It would be cool though to try and raise SH fry or even clownfish fry as my two sabae's appear to be headed towards spawning. Having this culture station up and running seems to be a must if im going to even think about trying it.
