hmm that IMO would have to deal with your fish and how strong there swimming ablitys and how big they are i personal prob would stick with a sponge and if its the added filtering you want try and get some thing to split your tank i have a little spliter which i clip on and it is a a flex type of stuff that will allow the water through but not your fish , so you can have your filter but will not have to worry about them being sucked up and you could also keep the sponge filter going to even if you get a Hang on filter until that filter is matured enough to handle the load but to me the more filtering the better

We'll hold you to that.

I'm setting up to breed a pair of Ture Percs and also a True Perc with a Black Onyx. Is this your first attempt at breeding?

its my 4th batch of eggs,im getn better every batch,lol..its alot of work!!!my clowns should be laying another batch in a few days.hopefuly they will lay alot more this time..they have only been laying between 50 and 75 due to there age i guess.my lfs here sells live rotts,so i dont have to hatch those .my first couple of batches didnt go so well,my rittiri was attached to the rock they layed eggs on and i didnt want to stress out my ritt and remove it.. i tryed the tile trick, but they wont lay eggs on it as close as i put it..they always lay the eggs just an inch below the rittiri..soiooooo when they lay eggs now, i move the rock with the rit just a lil bit lower in the tank and the rit moves back to the top again to another rock to strive for a higher rock to reach the mh's .i usualy start moving the rock on the 5th to 6th day.. it usauly takes the rit about 6 to 12 hrs to move..also im not going through the trouble again breeding untill my clown lays over 100 eggs..the percent rate of every fry living is very low, so with i higher number of a batch ,the chances are more will live...the keeping the rits alive, adding dt's to rott tank and breeding tank every day, the water changes every day in the breeding tank and the rott tank is just to much work for a lil batch you catch my drift, lol

Thanks for the reply. I figured about the same thing. Mine are too young yet, at least the one male, and small batches will be too much hassle.

I run an extra sponge filter in my sump JIC I need to QT a sick critter or a new acquisition. I'd imagine that this type filter run at a low enough bubble would be ideal for fry. I run nothing but sponge filters on my guppy tanks from breeders to drop tanks.
