Help! Clown's setting up house
My Clown's look like their getting ready to lay eggs and I'm not ready for fry! They have a corner that they have cleaned up and guard... and my female is getting fat. Their Ocellaris and I thought they were to small and to young to breed the female is about 2.5 to 3" and the male is about 2".
I have a Deco 3G nano tank I got to set up at work and is still in the box will that work for the fry?
I hope I'm wrong because I don't have any thing set up for breeding... I thought I had a year or so before they'd be ready.

reccomended larval raising tank for clowns is 25-30 gallons, BB, sides back and bottom painted dark, light aeration no filter. The real problem is raising the live rotifiers that they need upon hatching. Never raised them myself but looked it up in a beginner fish breeding book I got for breeding FW

That's what I'm doing! I'm trying to get info here because I don't trust my LFS's any more.

if you want to stop them just rearrange the tank completly and cover the spot they cleaned. the female will re-absorb the eggs.

Let them lay the eggs. They will get eaten when the hatch but you won't have to worry yet about a fry tank. When you're ready you can start taking out the eggs.

what do y'all mean by taking out the eggs? do you mean like just take out the eggs and move them to a different tank or just putting them in the trash?

not in the trash, but tranferring the eggs to ur fry tank, but you dnt really have to worry about the first batch of eggs, they will definetly lay more, and the second batch may be even larger than the first,
so... you can wrack your brain and straiin yourself, or just wait until next time =-)

Do yourself a huge favor and find this book that was mentioned. It is pretty much a step by step guide for breeding clowns and was written by an experienced breeder. It answers every question and possible problem that you will have.
For now, I would just let the clowns be. Losing the first few sets of eggs is not a problem and it will give you time to get all of your phyto and rotifer cultures going as well as setting up your larval rearing tanks.
