When and how do you know your clown fish are mateing?

I think they say that the general rule is that:

1) You have a male and female ( female is generally bigger than the male by at least half it's size or 2")
2) They are old enough 18+ (jk, but they do have to be at least 2 or 3 to begin)
3) They start cleaning their "spawing" site aka- heater, wall, clay..etc
