Black Bristle Starfish??

I found a small, maybe 1/2 inch dia., starfish looking thing when I was breaking down a friends 30 gallon saltwater tank the other day, that was dead. The only thing I could think of was the starfish when I saw it. Do these make babies like that?

I googled and found out what I needed.

To clarify, I found what looked to be a small starfish in a tank I was taking down. I was about the size of a nickel around and was dark red looking. It was not alive as it was at the bottom and the tank was being washed out.

I was just trying to find out if it could be a starfish and how it could have gotten there. It was late last night so I guess I was not being clear.
