Bicolor blenny breeding

Has anyone tried, or has any advice on breeding bicolor blennies?

I know very little about fish breeding (have done lots of coral fragging), but have done some light searching on the website. I would appreciate any links that you think would be beneficial.

Any suggestions or recommendations about equipment needs?

While I do not plan nor want to be cheap with my set-up or plans, conserving electricity and efficiency is as important to me as saving wild caught fish.

If I am successful I am more than willing to share my successes with everyone that participates in the discussion. Important note for anyone expecting a bicolor blenny in the next few months if our crossed fingers and fish Gods work in our favor... I will not initiate the plan until summer to give me time for more research.

I don't know anything about it but want to tag along as I would really like to see if they can be captive bred as they are a really cool little fish. Best of luck to you.

Is there a reliable way to sex them? In general breeding projects require a dedicated tank for breeding and sometimes a sepreate setup for raising the young. Not sure if its absolutely neccasary w/ these but usually breeding goes a whole lot better w/ live foods for the fry

Did I ever tell you about the time Brasky went hunting? Well anyway, Brasky decides he's gonna hunt down all four members of the Banana Splits. He stalks and kills every one of them with a machete. They all beg for their lives, except Fleagul.

I don't know if there is a way to accurately sex them either. A quickie internet search says no. I do have a back up tank for the fry. I don't know what I will do for feeding the fry. I don't know since they are supposed to be herbivores if the typical fry food will suffice.

again, I speak only in generalities because I know little of this particular species (aside from cuteness). I know that sometimes juveniles eat meat in herbivore species. So its possible they would eat BBS. I might look into raising plankton, infusoria or rotifiers. Perhaps it will be as easy as green water. I have a somewhat dated text saying that the striped blenny (Meiacanthus spp.) has been spawned but the fry had not been succesfully raised in captivity by hobbyists. Sometimes close species are a good place to start research on methods. HTH

Thanks I will try to find some info on striped blenny breeding. What text did you use? Your text wasn't written by Bill Brasky was it? I heard that he can breed with anything.

No, it was actually written Jay Hemdal but I wondered if anyone else even remembered that skit. It was hard to find a quote that was family friendly.
