Thanks Twitter, I was scared for a moment.

IMO there is really quite a bit you can keep with seahorses. After years of keeping only seahorse tanks I have decided to setup my 65g not as a horse tank but as a LPS/Wrasse/Clam tank. Since I have only ever kept horses it's a whole new world. Luckily people like Twitterbait have been great in helping me plan my future system. The seahorse system and a reef system setup are completely different.

I'm looking at a 37g for my next horse tank, and hopefully a 180g tall after the big move. I think it would be great for a dozen horses and a grip of softies.

I have kept Horses in my SPS tank and they were fine with the flow and the light... they loved having so many places to hitch to and they didn't even bug the corals. I think they would do awsome in a softie tank.

Hi Sara, I have a 42 gal. hex with 2 male seahorses 30 pds of live rock, macro algae( the good one that doesn't go sexual),1 baby Watanabe angel(about 2 inches, very cute),the essential cleanup crew of 2 dozen or so snails and those itty bitty starfish, mushrooms galore. The angel is not going to be a permenent resident since they need more space. At about 3-4 inches it will go to the reef tank.Oh ,I forgot the shrimp pair (fire shrimp). I got fire shrimp for this tank cause they're not as bold as the cleaner shrimp.Other shrimp are just too bold and food crazed to put with seahorses,IMO.These guys don't make a mad dash for the food, they seem content to wait for lights out to go foraging for leftovers.Oh,forgot about my spaghetti worms and peanut worm.OK(whew) that's everybody,I think.Oh , FYI, going sexual means that certain Caluerpa macro algae, has some sort of nervous breakdown and releases certain toxins into the water,if I understand it right.I've never seen it since I heard about it and just avoided that macro. Good Luck

There are many types of macro algae. I do not know of any that is 100% gaurenteed not to go sexual. When unfavorable conditions present the algae breaks into spores as a method of survival.

IME I have had the best experiences with prolifera, and red grape caulphera.

I have kept green grape caulphera in a sump style refugium that received 24 hour lighting.

Personally I do not like to keep the faster growing caulphera's in my systems. They are hard to pruin and take care for. Many have the ability to take over seemingly overnight.

I have had suction cup caulphera go sexual in my system but I was already running carbon in my filter so no harm was done.

JME

My current 155 bowfront with 200+ ponds live rock tank holds:
Blue tang
Yellow Tang
Naso Tang
Longnose Hawkfish
Pearly Jawfish
Lawnmower Blennie
Mandrin
False Perc
6-line wrasse

My future stocking..... I am wishing for disbar or sunset anthias... but as you see I will have to part with a few fish. So for now I will wait. Prolly get them 6-9 months if I get a larger tank. New house first.

to many corals to list, but mix of acro, montis (encrusting and plating), milli, multiple clams (crocea, derasa, giga), softies (hammer, different zenias, frogspawn), Open brain, closed brains (various colors), Gynopora, long tent plate corals, 30-40 or so different zoos, blastos, multiple Enemonies (seabae and bubble tip) Hynopora, Pink Leather, 20-22 different mushrooms and ricordea... Im sure I'm missing stuff. Basically a mixed reef.

Inverts...
2 sexy shrimp
2 cleaner
2 peppermint
1 pom pom crab
100 blue leg hermits
30-35 scarlet crabs
6-10 fancy stars
2 brittle stars
1 blue lynkia
3 sifting stars
1 electric flashing scallop
1 blue tuxedo urchin
1 rock boring urchin

Chaeto in the sump offset to daytime lights (10pm on to 10 am off)

This was my best off the top of my head list.

hello.
i will try to make sure i remeber it all.....

55 gallon
1 fire goby
1 true clownfish
1 yellow tang
1 lawnmower blenny
1 "baby" emerald green crab - new got him few days ago

10 gallon
1 small snowflake eel (going to move to bigger tank once get one i like)
1 SGT Major damsel

10 gallon
1 neon blue damsel
1 large green brittle star
both of these were moved out of the 55 three days ago. had an empty tank and brittle star has been known to be very predatory and so had the neon blue damsel.

in the 55 i have an assortment of mushroom like growths on the live rock...came with the rock...also seen some sponges on it as well. had a banded cat shark in 55 a small baby one but he died recently...and have larger crushed coral substrate on the 55 and one ten gallon. the second ten gallon has very fine crushed coral...sand grain size.
hope this helps give some variety for you and i think i remembered everything. mostly. good luck!
