Hi,
I'm cvtebeest1 and new to your site**..I live in WI and never see seahorses for sale anymore; not like the 70's and early 80's. If I were to ever be lucky to start a SH tank, would I start the 5-6 mos with a couple damseys (same as normally starting a sw tank?); what would be my normal tank size? and when the tank would be ready, could I introduce other passive species, or would I only include enenomies (spelled correctly?) I'll keep reading the forums, but if anyone's willing to reply they're more than welcome.** Bright Blessings!
(By the way, I joined this sight because I'm having a bad problem with my Bird Wrasse...I think he's got gill disease...has been really stressed for appx. 24 hrs/ he probably won't make it; I've had him since Oct. Also my nitrogen is really low; don't know how it got that way. (he's the light of my tank & I never thought I'd have feelings for a fish as I would our family pet) Any advice would be great. Thanks again!

Welcome to TRT!!!!!
You don't have to cycle with Damsel and it won't take 6 months, many ways to Cycle a tank, some that won't harm any fish, When You are ready You can ask here and in the general forum, Seahorses are alawy forsale by a few really good vender, they are captive bred and eating frozen foods, You don't want to ever buy wild caught seahorses, So when Your ready check back here and people will steer you to a few good places , I think the smallest tank would be a 15 tall tank, 37 tall is even better.
As far as Your fish, I think you will get some good replies on the general forum, Best place to post.
Again Welcome to TRT!!!!

My daughter just gave a 37 tall,
I am very interested in in making this a seahorse tank.
We are currently in the process of upgrading our 2 tanks, (1) 120g reef & (1) 135 FOWL into a 375 reef, we are building a fish room also.
I mainteneance both tanks and it is hard sometimes to do all this by myself. My husband is letting me up grade to a bigger reef.
He finally crossed over!
so with that being said how do we get started , , , ,
I think I understand the basic of a SW tank.
No experience at all with seahorses, (yet)

I'm going to let you ask and we will do what we can to answer and get you going. Feel feel to start new threads in the seahorse forum, You will get answers faster and it will be on topic

Hi everyone. I am new to salt water tanks and just learning about reef systems. I have a 15 year old sea clear tank that was always used to keep Oscars. It is 180 gal with a 30 gal sump that I plan to replace with a 40 gal sump and 40 gal refuge. I have a berlin pro skimmer rated for 200 gal and a uv sterilizer that is not turned on yet. The tank has been set up for one month now and has 160lbs of Fiji rock. My long term plan is to have some corals and sea horses. I guess this is the place to learn right?
