Seahorses help needed

Hello, I have had dwarf seahorses for several months. A few days ago a seemingly healthy-the-evening- before, female was found the next morning on her usual perch, encased in some sort of web! She was dead. The other eight seem to be fine; no other signs of any kind of "web." I know what hydroids are. This was not a hydroid problem. Any ideas? Thanks.

pony passion

I am unsure what the web stuff is... i have several worm type things that snot webby stuff when I do water changes but I have never seen it land on ponies or fish or anything...

How are the others doing?

Might I suggest searching over at seahorse.org they have extensive information on ponies.

please let us know what you find so we can learn with you.

Hydroids look like miniature hydras. Tiny! A simple cicular body with eight tentacles - clear or white. Best environment is the dwarf seahorse tank - no predators, optimum water conditions, rich supply of bbs. A colony will look similar to pinkish hair algae. A free swimmer resemble tiny jellyfish or can be seen stuck onto the tank wall. They have a large dot in the middle of their bodie. The best way to eradicate them is to move the seahorses to another tank after a fresh water dip. Sterilize the tank and set up again as a precaution for the hydroids reappearing. I learned most of this from Alisa Wagner Abbott's book "The Complete Guide to Dwarf Seahorses" and personal experience.
