Seahorses!

I have a 14 gallon biocube(thats empty right now), and I'm trying to decide what to put in it. Before I even ordered it I wanted seahorses but I didnt have room for a 30 gallon tank. So then I was thinking about a nano reef. I went to my LFS the other day, and they had seahorses! (reidi) I was hooked, but i dont know if my tank is big enough. I read in some places reidi need 15 gallon min., plus 5 gallons per pair, and I was wondering if that is right. I really really want them, and I've been doing LOADS of research, and i know how difficult they are. Thanks!

How tall is that tank? You want the tank to be 2and a half times as tall as the full grown seahorse at least. ( After you put the sand in )

You will also need a way to control the temperature - those cubes run on the hot side and you need to keep the temp down to 74 degrees for ponies.

They are wonderful creatures and a joy to keep when done right. Research is the first step to s strong tank, so good for you! Keep it up!

It is 15 inches tall, and right now, i have a small betta tank without a heater and it is 72 degrees, so I think my house will be warm enough. The seahorses at one store were only like 6 inches and the worker said thats there max size, but they are wild caught so im not going to get them.

but 2 and a half times 6 is 15 are you going BB?

And once you turn your lights on on the biocube the temp runs in the 80's on most of them. Also what will happen come summer when your house is warmer and the tank heats up more? How will you keep the temp under 74 then.

I am not trying to be a pain, but to ask questions on things that will occur and it's better to get answers now than after your horses are in trouble

Haha ok, I dont know, i might do BB or a shallow sand bed, but I might also get a smaller type such as fuscus... im not getting them until after this summer, but for the summer after that i might get a chiller if needed, but ill have to see what it does, cause I cant really tell what the temp. will be, and different species need different temps, so i'll have to see when I actually get them. Im just planning in advance so I can do everything right.
