Seahorse Pregnant?

So im pretty sure my male erectus seahorse is pregnant. he and his mate just arrived today. upon looking at him it seems his pouch is fairly inflated. the site wont let me for some reason post pics in the thread so i made an album on my account page or whatever of the pics. tell me what u think. also he has been very sluggish and much slower than the other horse.

Males are known to inflate their pouches with water to entice the female to take an interest in him and his big pouch.

So how do you tell the difference between that and pregnancy?

The first thing that would happen is that there would be no more courting and the male MAY go into seclusion, showing less activity than normal.
If you REALLY had to know then you could "candle" the seahorse.
A very strong light from behind the pouch will show the eggs in the pouch.

Definitely possible if they are sexually mature. Probably not with the female he received with it though.

havent seen them yet though I have school for alot of the day and dont have alot of time to continually check on them. and im guessing he mated with another horse before shipment. also, rayjay, i found that the source of ammonia was the dealers water. i tested a bucket of his water left today and found high ammonia(0.25ppm). i am calling him tomorow to find out what i should do.

seahorse pregnant?

Adonis, my male seahorse it is not interacting with the other 3 seahorses, however, he eats and swims a bit but I have bought him with a largish pouch. When he swims he doesnt extend his tail like the others and seems like he is constantly looking to wrap his tail.

do u think he is pregnant?

Thats kind of how mine acted. But if they other three are all females, bloating up his pouch is like kind of a way for them to impress the females.

erectus and adonis

i have in my tank two females and two males. the other male is moving more than adonis. the girls are full of energy and they dont stop dancing and swiming.
I have rubbed Adonis belly today just in case he's got gas. honestly, the wired part of this is the way he swims (not extending his tail)... he actually wraped his tail around his nose !!! so silly! and cute
